| Is it me or is the higher up the leagues yer side climbs, the crapper it gets? I'm pining for the division formally formally known as the third but formally known as the second but now LEAGUE ONE! 'cos grounds were more fun, cheaper to get in, better pubs and more passionate fans (for pafc as well as who ever we played). Sure the football is a bit better and there is a better quality of player but it just ain't as much fun. Oh and the other annoying thing is still no one has filled the away end at Home Park... and it only holds 2,200! Pathetic! |

| Can't believe Cisse is out for the season, surely for 14 million we could have got a striker with indestructible legs. It sounds like he was just finding some form as well. Not sure what we'll do if any of our remaining strikers gets injured, thank god we didn't let Baros go. |

He was injured apparently, they showed him sitting there watching the game, brown coat and a big scarf and all. He looked like a kid.

| I've been following the England vs Spain game on the internet and it sounds like an awful night, Rooney going mad and having to be substituted, England not creating any chances and all Englands black players getting racially abused by the crowd. Not good. |

Rooney taking the black armband he, and the team, were supposedly wearing in honour of Emlyn Hughes, whose funeral service took place yesterday also, off and throwing it to the ground, as he's substituted.
according to what I read
he's lucky, in a way, that the racist abuse from some of the Spanish fans towards England's black players has overshadowed such a petty and despicable act |

Much as it pains me to defend him I don't think Rooney meant Emlyn Hughes any specific disrespect by throwing the arm band off, it was probably something that happened in the heat of the moment.
Does anyone reckon the England players should have walked off the field as the racists chants continued? Here's an article saying they should have done but surely this would have just been giving into the racists.

This was raised on Question Time last night and had a few good responses, the best IMHO being that Spain should be banned from applying for the 2012 Olympics.
Still, good to see how far England has come compared to other countries in this respect (if not others).

What has a friendly football match and a couple of idiot Spanish racists got to do with the 2012 Olympics...? _________________

The fact that Spanish sport should be punished for the actions of the Spanish fans. Then maybe they'll think twice. _________________ "fashioned by the blade of a world that doesn't care,

That still doesn't make much sense though, I'm afraid...
What if some English fan at a figure skating contest racially abused some competitor, should the whole English team be banned from the next Winter Olympics?
Just because it's football it doesn't make anything more 'serious' (not less serious either of course). The Spanish football association should be somehow punished by UEFA/FIFA/whatever because of this. This has absolutely nothing to do with the Olympics! _________________
