My band played at The Spitz in Shoreditch... what a nice venue! I love the way the stage is in the middle with audience to three sides. We were on last and there were quite a few people there, it was a good gig. My Mum and Dad even came to watch - how rock/n/roll am I?!
The sound guy was one of the most chilled-out nice sound-guys I've ever met too.
The other fun thing I did this weekend was to go and see Lemon Jelly at The Forum, Kentish Town - they were freaking great, everyone at Lemon Jelly gigs are so NICE! They're playing the gig on Radio 1 tonight I think.
I hope everyone else had a good weekend too!

A band called "D'Silva" (the singer Ruth's second name in case you were wondering!). I play guitar in it... apparently we're "Angualr New Wave". Hey! If I was self-promoting I'd say the our web site is www.dsilvamusic.co.uk and our next gig is on Friday in Kentish Town!
I also do solo stuff that's more dancey and where I sing, that I'm honored that Martin described as 'The Fookin' Business' when he had a listen to the mp3s on my site! I need to do more of that, but the D'Silva band is taking up most of my musical-time at the moment...

I went to see The Fall, got drunk, and played a game which involved thinking of song titles with the word "love" in, and replacing them with "knob".
To repeat, I was drunk, but if any others of you are in a like state of mind (and let's face it, also 'young for your years') then:
"Tainted Knob"
"I Will Do Anything For Knob (But I Won't Do THAT)"
"Knob Shack"
No really, I AM 28. _________________ Scattershot Writing: www.jameseverington.blogspot.com |

nowt wrong with nottingham in my (rather limited) experience.
rock city is a nice venue in an odd-shaped sort of way. |

'The Trip' (To Jerusalem.)
Nottingham is not particularly great, or particularly bad really.
They've just spend ££££ of tax payers money so some wanky marketing people can work out new colouts, fonts, and logos for Nottingham.
The logo they finally came up with was 'N'.
Bet that's pissed Norwich off. _________________ Scattershot Writing: www.jameseverington.blogspot.com |

er, can't
but i saw little flames and dead 60s on friday eve. dead 60s were bloody marvellous and bought a tear to the eye. never thought i'd see a band modernise the sound of the specials/jam/clash/costello and sing about proper people n everyday lives again. marvellous.
and then on sunday saw
gravy train (hilarious, campest and one of the most entertaining bands i've ever seen but utter shite musically) and le tigre, who were splendid and precoscious in the same set. sound tunes at times as well. hooray. |

you can also replace the word 'love' in pop tunes with 'lunch' to great effect. As in, "feeel like makin lunch".
on friday my friend and I went out to a party, but when we got there it turned out to be just an appartment full of Asian bio-engineering students, who directed us to the pub where our acquaintance (who had invited us) was. we had a beer at the place and then all went back to the "party". to our surprise the asian bio-engineering students had changed into green outfits in celebration of st patricks day. the police showed up fifteen minutes later and threw everyone out, apparently not swayed by the fact that it was a benefit for children with leukemia (news to us). so my friend and I pressed on to where the party was being moved to. but we got the address wrong, and there were no asian university students wearing green hats anywhere. so we went to a bar, but it was closed, so we went to another, and had only an hour before closing. they had a decent rocksteady reggae band there called I think pressure cooker. they did a decent cover of sweet and dandy, even though the Berklee music school kids in the band couldn't quite swing it right. we managed to drink about four or five pints apiece before the place closed. outside, someone called out, "hey Mars, you guys coming?" Mars being my friend's pseudonym. ended up going to an afterparty whre we knew literally noone. good time though, from what I can remember. impromptu music playing and some interesting types. at some point I kind of flipped out on some guy who claimed with a straight face that climate change was a hoax, and by some miracle battered him with an arsenal of facts and figures that I typically cannot remember sober much less pissed. left at six in the morning.
i woke up hung over. _________________ "Even I know the solution: love, music, wine and revolution..." (magnetic fields)
