i see a lot of the "that's your opinion, not mine" popping up here. why are you bothering coming on here and asking for advice if that's going to be your snappy retort?
what have you seriously done to change your sitaution? have you actually indentified what you want to do with yourself and made serious attempts to go for it, or have you just wallowed in your own self-made complacent boredom? there are no magic words or spells mate... your own path is your own creation.
and i may just try that tiger thing myself, just for kicks today...

24 and feeling sorry for yourself. Seems like a pretty typical feeling for someone who's lost at that age. No longer a child but still not mature enough to be an adult and take responsibility for yourself.
All you need to do is grow up, as soon as you do that things will change drastically. After what happened in London this week, you're a pretty sick fucker for starting this thread, maybe that's why life keeps going wrong for you. Have you asked yourself that? |

Dude I know how you feel I just turned 25 and things are cool but 24 was an awful year I felt the same no direction, like time was running out, like I wasnt who I wanted to be, and then I found Jesus... only joking, I dunno although nothing drastic happened and to be honest I wallowed for a while and missed out on lot of opportunities (just windows for coolness) I feel much better now and Im in a worse situation practically, but things will get better. At the same time you'll be the one to make it happen.
To all those cocksuckers putting the guy down cause of a random traged, just a word of awareness, people die in violent atrocities everyday its horrible and Im not saying 'so dont ever care' but if you're gonna get on your high horse then make sure you do it the next time paramilitaries massacre trade unionists in colombia, or Israel invades a west bank town, or palestinians bomb a bus stop, or whatever happens next in Iraq. I dont wanna be glib about the tragedy, and I mean this with the greatest respect but if people could channel the concern they have for events in their own communities and apply it in other places as well. Christ i hope that doesn't sound awful. Theres a point about non selective compassion in there but Im not very good at expression. Theres also a point about calling someone whose in a bad place a 'sick fucker', a realising next time you feel depressed other people have it far worse off than you all over the globe. or maybe you never feel bad about yourself. |

And you see, that is the whole point of the argument.
You want advice? You thinkn what everyone has given you is criticism?
Sometimes part of the advice has to be critical, so take it on board or reject it as you see fit but don't just dismiss everything out of hand.
Nobody is laughing AT you, I think some people have tried to inject humour into the proceedings. That's very different.
As for the advice itself, there's lots of that here what there isn't is The Answer. That's because the is no "The Answer".
Like Princess... said, it's in your hands.
The hardest thing to do is forgive yourself your failures but you must if you are to move forward. I know that ffrom experience.
Think about Failure. Failure isn't about falling down, failure is staying down.
If you've tried something and it didn't work, try it again but perhaps from a different angle. Think about what went wrong, what was difficult and what you'd do differently this time.

Steady on, eh people?? This guy is clearly in a bad way and, from experience both personal and of others, it can make you act like an awkward fucker. Especially when you feel like everything's conspiring against you, a feeling I'm all too familiar with. Comparing his current state to any kind of world event is incredibly unhelpful and insensitive. ANYONE can get depression, no matter what their situation. You can be the most caring and compassionate person in the world, but if you're not happy then it's hard to get around that; people are naturally predisposed to 'look out for number one'.
Joe, I cannot emphasise this enough: you've GOT to stop drinking. It's a major depressant, and I'm trying (struggling hard) to kick it myself at the moment as it was having such a destructive effect on my mental state. Try going at least week without drinking, if just to see what kind of an effect it can have. After that, maybe just drink once or twice a week (this doesn't mean going on a bender, though). You've got to treat this like a physical condition, which it basically is. Go see someone. Antidepressants aren't ideal but they can help level you out a lot. And it sounds like you're very embittered about all this, which is only natural, but as you can see from this thread a lot of people either don't understand or don't have much time for it as they're busy going about their own lives, so letting that bitterness affect the way you deal with people won't elicit much sympathy. Think back to a time in your life where maybe more was going for you, and what your strengths were: you can't let yourself lose sight of that because the more bridges you burn, the worse it will get.
X amount of people have gone through what you're going through and turned out alright, so you're not exactly a hopeless case. Things change so bloody quickly mate. Think of this as the ultimate test of your character, and when you pass it you will reap the rewards. Sorry if any of this sounds patronising or garbled or anything, it's early in the morning and I'm just trying to cobble together whatever advice I can muster, 'cause I know what you're going through and I'm rooting for you. Take care, Jon. |

A lot of the criticism on here hasn't come from the "random tragedy" angle imho. It's come from somebody asking, "I'm depressed, therefore is it ok for me to wipe out as many people as I can"?
I'm never going to citicise somebody for being depressed and asking for advice, God knows I've been through a lot in my life (some of which I disclosed in this thread earlier, then edited it out as being too personal to share). The point is, it will never be ok for someone to ask that question, whether a certain random event has happened or not.

OK,
To go back to the original question and to ignore any of the "tough love" I may have been aiming at.
The choice in the poll has got to be : Get some help.
The rest of the options are just non-starters. As I'm sure you know, just badly timed flippant remarks probably.
When it comes down to it, the only qualification I have to dish out advice is my experience but it is my experience,my opinion, nobody elses. (As you rightly pointed out.)
Get some help and as one of the guests said. Things change quickly.
There is one certainty about life, nothing lasts forever. Whether they be good or bad things.
good luck _________________ We would like to announce that due to cutbacks the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off.....
