Is Plymouth just a goofy city or what? |
Plymouth is the city by the sea.
We're miles from the rest of the UK, stuck out on a limb in the deep and distance south west. As a result we travel more miles than any other British club over the course of a season (about the same as London to Auckland if it were a straight line) and still managed to take almost 4000 to Reading (400 miles there and back) and 800 to Sunderland on a Wednesday night (which is double that distance) when most had to go to work the next day. Considering it was about 5am it takes some dedication!
Of course those sort of distances probably don't mean much to you. 800 miles is just down the road, but the look on the faces of the locals when 1500 greenies arrive in somewhere like Nottingham or Sheffield is priceless! They can't comprehend the travelling.
This may have been a factor in that we were voted 'Best Away Fans 2004/5' on a nationwide poll carried out on BBC Radio 5 Live.
Plymouth, it's not too big and it's not too small, but things are certainly different down here. |

I ordered the kit last night. How could I not?? All I got from other was "Must be Villa, innit???
Plymouth abounds.
Now who is going to explain this to her when she wants to watch her team on TV??? Think of what you've done. Do you feel better? She'll want to visit one day but won't be able to because of the clowns... TOO scary. And heap on all of that the wieght problem she'll be sure to have due to all the mail-order pasties she'll be wolfing down.
This is all your fault. You and you "look at us out in the middle of the ocean and nobody loves us".
I hope you're happy now. |

We're happy to have her in the world wide family of Plymouth Argyle!
I'm just worried about my evangelical abilities in persuading you to get her the shirt cos my little lad just doesn't seem interested how ever hard i try.
I don't know how the English coverage works in America and from where they source the live games, but Plymouth are live on sky here on Sept 10 v. Norwich and Oct 30 v. Millwall.
Send in the clowns. |

You have a little one also? She is number four...
We only get the premier league games...no championship matches unfortunately. And we only get about 3 matches a week (unless you're a fool like me and shell out $300 for the season package...that means you get an extra 2 a week...not a good deal but better than $20 per game).
football is an expensive hobby in the states. |

do you go to any chicago bars to watch the matches jeff? Gingers, and the globe are really good. They usually have 3 matches on saturdays, 2 on sundays and the monday game. You only have to pay to watch internationals and FA cup matches. The games are mostly live and they open really early in case of 12.30 GMT kick offs. |

so baros didn't play today. think he is on the move? I've heard that either Robbie Keane or Baros will be coming to villa. I can see keane coming but don't know why baros would leave for us. Maybe he's best mates with patrick berger. _________________ Martin O'Neill's Claret And Blue Army |

Yeah and much as I'm a footie nut, he shows no interest at all. He's seven but I just can't get him into it. I think I might just buy him a shirt and see what happens.
I blame his mum. She hates footie! _________________ Be sad, be happy and be wise |

i don't think benitez rates baros much, so he'd probably sell him if someone comes in with a reasonable offer. if we buy crouch and we play one up front this season, baros probably wouldn't play too many games and might move for that reason. he said earlier in the summer that he'd stay, but had previously talked about leaving. vladimir smicer's paddy berger's mate. |

Isn't Baro's contract up at the end of the season and if he hangs around for 12 months he'll be able to leave on a free? I think I'd rather Baros hung around for another year and we didn't get Crouch though. I think we need a small nippy striker like Michael Owen, Morrientes is great in the air so I'm not sure what Crouch will bring to us. |

yeah i think baros is out of contract next year, but you'd be a cynic to suggest that he's staying so he can get a lucrative deal for himself on a bosman, obviously. if he's going to go we might as well get some cash for him. there were games last season where he didn't want to know - he was subbed in some games for a midfielder when we were playing one up front and needed a goal!
crouch did score quite a few goals last season, and with zenden and cisse whipping in crosses he might thrive. maybe. |

thats almost as bad as that striker who city left on the bench when they put david james up front at the end of last season. at times like that you'd have to question whether the manager really believes in your ability.
I thought it was great in the last 20 minutes yesterday having two wingers on, I hope Cisse doesn't mind playing out there cos he looks like he can cross a ball.
That stuff about the number 12 shirt being 'Green Army' from further up the thread is brilliant. |

i've listened to all this nonsense about plymouth but can't let the number 12 thing go. we (preston north end) have had that for years, and the town end, the main home fans stand even has a massive number 12 on the concourse.
our new manager though didn't realise this, and has recently registered a keeper number 12 so i guess that means the fans can no longer be the sub.
here is a pic taken from said stand:

ps note the extra goals on the touchline which are being trialed in the chamoionship next season in an attempt to create higher scoring games, another of fifa's crazy ideas... |

Welcome to the family Jeff, she may not see us much on tele nor get much to cheer about but when we get our once a decade promotion she'll enjoy it much the more 'cos its such a rare thing. And it beats seasons of being stuck in the same division going neither forward nor back.
