| No offence John M and other scouser fans on here but the mention of them reminded me of that unbelievable UEFA cup final and how i've never been so upset to see a team lost a final i began watching as a neutral. Alaves were a great inspiration to clubs like the one I follow and the things they did like paying for all their fans to go to the final and getting the names scanned into the final shirt... class. Doubt they'll ever get to another euro final either which was another reason i was sad. Still at least they played in all time classic! |

Yeah, I was a bit sad too... in the end I wanted Alaves to win even though I as well started watching the match as a "neutral".
Javi Moreno was a bit of a legend that season (whatever happened to him??) and Alaves became my favourite club in Spain. _________________

I'd have been really pleased with Baros going to Villa if we got Solano as part of the deal. Would like Mickey O back but Rafa doesn't seem that keen, we really need cover at the back though, if Carragher or Hyypia get injured then we're in trouble. |
definitely need a centre back. preferably one with some pace. been linked with a few people today, so hopefully something will happen soon.
the owen stuff is very strange. rafa keeps saying he's not looking for a striker, but the rumours continue. the echo site says today that negotiations over wages are the only stumbling block, as though it's a done deal between the clubs. hopefully rafa's just playing it cool to help keep the fee down. we need something else up front. looked very toothless on saturday. |

It was a great game and all neutrals should be supporting us in Europe from now on. Even though we get to finals through dour defending, when we get there we go goal crazy just to entertain the people of europe.
I don't think its that unlikely that Alaves will ever get to another euro final, the champions league has been won the past couple of seasons by teams who were outsiders when the competition started. All you need is a clever manager and a plan, like the A-Team had.
i'll be glad when the transfer window is closed so the papers can stop speculating about which strikers we're gonna sell/buy and get back to their real job of speculating about when Stevie G is going to leave. |

What a great idea to spice up boring defensive football.
Lock the teams up in a barn full of tools, welding gear, guns and a set of wheels. Give them 90 minutes to come up with some sort of battering ram and let them loose on those dour defences.
I ain't getting in no goddam plane, fool. |

I thought the chance had gone for us to get baros but it looks like its going to happen now. I am very happy with this but will be really angry if we sell solano. I just got the new villa shirt with #11 Solano on the back. _________________ Martin O'Neill's Claret And Blue Army |

some
League Cup
(or whatever it's called nowadays?) results:
Preston 2 - 2 Barnsley
Barnsley win (!!!) 5-4 on penalties!
Crystal Palace 3 - 0 Walsall
Ipswich Town 0 - 2 Yeovil Town
Leyton Orient 1 - 3 Luton Town
Sheffield Utd 1 - 0 Boston Utd
Wrexham 0 - 1 Doncaster
Plymouth 2 - 1 Peterborough
Also, Liverpool got through to the 3rd round of Champ.Lge qualifying, even though they lost 0-1 against CSKA Sofia (3-2 on agg.) Portsmouth and Aston Villa shared the points (1-1) in the Premier League, perhaps Villa will be stronger next week when they have Baros.
So... a pretty good night for all of us, except for for Sparky.
Oh my god, run - he'll ban us all now!
Come on Tykes!

Apparently Portsmouth were a bit unlucky tonight... Solano (Aston Villa) was sent off after 10 mins and Portsmouth had loads of chances to win the game. Solano elbowed Portsmouth's Richard Hughes, and just seconds later Hughes headed an own goal.
Portsmouth scored the equaliser three minutes before the half time whistle, but despite of a few good chances they couldn't score on the second half, so I think Hew should be quite happy tonight.

its a match that i think we would have won if solano hadn't been sent off. I guess a draw is ok with 10 men for most of the match. I wonder if solano did what he did because he doesn;t want to play for us anymore. I hope not. But if he does go i will send back my shirt and ask for a new one with #10 Baros on the back. They accepted returns when we sold vassell. I fancy Baros to score a couple against blackburn at the weekend. I rather have him that Beattie or Bellamy. _________________ Martin O'Neill's Claret And Blue Army |

| Felt quite sorry for Cisse last night, he looked genuinely gutted when the interviewer asked him if he'd be leaving Liverpool. I don't want him to go, I don't think he's been given enough time to show what he can do. |
