Not quite a new year resolution for me, as I'm starting today, but I'm now a vegetarian!

Anyone else got any major life changing resolutions?

Did you manage to learn a new language this year Mixedspaces?

p.s. Oh yeah, I'm also going to sign up to pay a decent monthly donation to at least 3 charities. It's shameful that I've not done this already Rolling Eyes

for years my resolution was 'get a man' but that failed so i've given up. the other of course is to be nicer and i achieve that a little each year...dunno if it's negated by the times when i'm not nice!

Breaking News:
Kinkster joins the Veggie Party.

haha, no way Kinx. I bet your girlfriend has got something to do with this. Very Happy
Seriously though... good for you, it's a respectable thing to do. I don't think I could do it (without a bit of brainwashing anyway...).

Dear Gillworm,
Don't give up - you'll find your man sooner or later. Perhaps the men in London aren't really into the 'naughty nun' thing of yours, well it's their own loss. Laughing Oh, and I heard a rumour that you've already found your man... kind of. hahaa Wink

Here's the 2005 resolutions thread if anyone wants to have a look. 2005 has been quite good to me so far, unfortunately I didn't have any time for travelling this year. How about you, mixedcases, did you visit 12 countries in 2005?

Exclamation

In a way my girlfriend does have a lot to do with it Wink

She's been a veggie for 5-6 years. When we moved in together four years ago I said I'd support her by not eating meat in the house - only when we went out.

Well four years on from that I've managed quite easily, so I've figured, why eat meat at all? There seems such little point.

Same reason I quit smoking!

Is the vegie decision a health thing, an animal loving thing, a girlfriend supporting thing or a mega mix of all these things?

Next year my plan is to get a permanent job, buy a house, go on 2 big era defining holidays and get pay off my debts. All sounds a bit dull and materialistic doesn't it.

Welcome to my world Wink

The veggie thing is a, "what's the point?" thing. You can live perfectly well without killing animals. There are a whole other multitude of reasons I guess, such as the way the animals are treated before deaf, and the contemptable lengths super rich supermarkets will go to get it so cheaply, but that's enough of my ranting, as it's a personal decision and i dread becoming one of those manic veggie preachers Wink

my new years resolutions are basically getting out the house and doing more...

1. start going to the orchestra - never been on my own accord.
2. go to the cinema more - went once this year and that was because it was free..
3. go on holiday - already italy in the pipeline, maybe france.
4. read at least one book a month - this year it was one book a year.. Confused
5. form a band/bands - because i like making and performing music and its getting boring on me own. i just have to decide on a genre..
6. get a new job - my is very yawnworthy.

the house and girlfriend stuff can come later when it doesn't seem so daunting (or impossible.)

i have vowed to become a veggie when i move out. my mum does enough for me without having to prepare a veggie alternative every other night for me. plus i like chicken. a lot.

I don't believe in resolutions, but my thoughts for next year.

I'd like to not bleed as much as this year, I think altogether I blead at least half of 2005.

I would like a permanent job, close to home if it's possible (I am doing my best, applying all the time).

Well, that's it. I have to say that 2005 has been the worst year of my life so far...so I am looking forward to 2006...touch wood, it'd be scary if it got even worse this year.

Chicken is also what keeps me from being a vegetarian. I like it a lot.
But when I go out etc I do eat meat because I have iron deficiency and iron pills mess my stomach up. But most time if I'm at a conference or fly or something I order vegetarian, often they're better than regular food.

Anyway, next year...yeah...hope also that my brother and partner get jobs and become happier.

Love & Peace

Well, I have to say that I'm far from fluent in Swedish! I have made a decent start though and I'm going to keep on trying to learn more next year. As for visiting 12 countries... I managed 6, so not too bad, I always knew it was very optimistic! I didn't make it out of Europe either...

For 2006 - not sure yet, but I think it will probably be to travel more and also to spend more time on my music - I've recorded about 2 of my own songs this year, that's so slow! I've done other things in bands of course, but I want to concentrate on my own stuff more I think. Maybe the resolution will be to record a whole album of proper songs in 2006.

Mark. x

p.s. I'm vegetarian too, and it's mostly because we can live perfectly well without killing things, in the modern world of quorn and vegeburgers! It's evolution I say!

Quorn is scary though, it's mould...I'd rather just eat beans and vegetables and stuff.

I've been a veggie for over 20 years now. It started as a form of teenage rebellion and my Mum basically said she'd accomodate my requirements, but if I ever let her down...

And so, even though I've long left the maternal homestead I don't feel any desire to start eating meat again

Quote:
Quorn is scary

The one downside is that I have a severe allergic reaction to Quorn. Everytime I eat the stuff I'm violently sick, which causes no end of problems when I go round for meals with veggie mates who will invariably cook a Quorn dish to appease the meat-eaters present. Aargh!

Happy New Year BC kids. May all your dreams come true

i had bad food poisoning after eating quorn once. i think i thought it didn't need cooking like chicken would, as it's just like mushroom or something. the vaccuum packaging it always comes in should have been a clue that it does need cooking properly and you can't just leave it in the fridge for ages after its eat by date.
