Sometimes I feel my life is just a way of filling time between end of year poll threads on the bravecaptain board. I reckon it's been the best year for music in ages. My favourite albums were:

1 Untrue by Burial
2 Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem
3 From here We Go To Sublime by The Field
4 Because of The Times - Kings of Leon
5 Crazy Ex-Girlfriend - Miranda Lambert

Big shouts out in a Westwood style to Holy Fuck, The White Stripes and Dizzee Rascal too. Well done every one of you, your parents must be very proud.

That Kate Nash single I can't remember the name of was the best single. 'Foundations', that's the one. Not the rest of her album though, that was horrible.

Best Gig : Arcade Fire at Porchester Hall

Worst Gig : Sonic Youth doing 'Daydream Nation'

Gig Which May Usurp Either Of The Two Above Before The End of The Year : GZA doing 'Liquid Swords' on Sunday

Footballer Whose Health I Worry About 24 hours A Day : Fernando Torres

Hatton or Mayweather : Rocky!

i agree it's been a brilliant year for music.

too many to mention really, but...

thou shalt not kill - dan le sac vs scroobius pip
our velocity - maximo park
you are one of the few outsiders that really understands us - fanfarlo
atom - british sea power
dr love - bumblebeez

...prove that singles still rule.

and lps by maps, cherry ghost, lcd soundsystem, beirut and holy fuck have rocked this particular house in recent months.

this comedy routine really stuck in my mind too:

This year seems to have gone on forever for me, so I'm sure my list will be incomplete, missing out new albums i thought were released in 2003....

Uppers
LCD Soundsystem for gig and single of the year by a country mile. fantastic album too.
Underworld Live in Nottigham
you are one of the few outsiders that really understands us - fanfarlo ( also, the sheffield gig and meeting Mark)
Echo Satellite / Synthetic - Sparky.
On / Flux - Bloc Party
Arctic Monkeys album and Diamonds are Forever at Glasto
The Killers doing Shadowplay at Glasto
Nick Warren at Glasto
Your Love Alone Is Not Enough - Manics / Nina
Herculean / The Good The Bad & The Queen - The Good The Bad & The Queen
Overture / Bluebells - Patrick wolf
With Every Heartbeat - Robyn...
... and nice surprises in the form of SFA, Idlewild, Maps, The Field & Radiohead.

Downers
My final Glasto having the worst weather / mud for years and destroying the gig I'd looked forward to all year (Arcade Fire)
The album I'd been looking forward to all year being a mostly crap (Arcade Fire)
Oblivion with Bells - Underworld
Era Vulgaris - Queens of The Stone Age...
....and the return of The Spice Girls.

Hope you all have a fantastic Christmas and look forward to chatting to you all in 2008! Long live bc and the bc board!

x

It's been a great year for albums. My most played would be:
1. Paperlung - Balance
2. Super Furry Animals - Hey, Venus!
3. Erasure - Light At The End Of The World
4. Idlewild - Make Another World
5. The Ataris - Welcome The Night

Honourable mentions to Smashing Pumpkins, The Good The Bad & The Queen, Bloc Party, and Coheed & Cambria for sheer ambition.

Oh, and best gig would be Idlewild at Leeds Met Uni.

This year my favourite things have been:

* Under The Backlight - Rilo Kiley
* In Rainbows - Radiohead (just got the super-duper £40-er one today!)
* Balance - Paperlung
* That Fiest album
Balance - The New Pornographers
* & not to forget Sparky's album (which is definitely on this list due to merit & not because of my own so tenuous link to the creator)

It really is nice. Not sure if it will stand the test of time but for now it's a perfect accompaniment to the infamous never ending winter of 2007.

Oh, and did I say Candi Payne? I didn't?

Candi Payne's album was another high point for me.

you won't be surprised to hear me say that Send Away the Tigers was album of the year for me...
In Rainbows and Hexes for Exes (Moving Units) tied in second place

someone else just reminded me about the Good the Bad and the Queen which has warmed the kitchen with its gentle musings quite a few times while I was cooking Sunday lunch.

I reserve the right to edit and add to this post! (not least for my typing!)
