So I finally bought the new album, "Stainless Style", and after playing it through a couple of times I must say that it's pretty good, even though I wasn't that impressed at first.

None of the tracks really stand out from the others, except for maybe the single 'I Lust U' (with Cate Le Bon) and 'Raquel' and one more track which name escapes my mind just now, but the whole thing works really well as an album.

I'm of course biased as I've become a huge SFA fan, but I really think we've got another classic album here and would recommend it to anyone.
Martin Carr is also mentioned in the liner notes so it's got to be a good one. Razz

I think I Told Her On Alderaan is naff. Like the worst of the 1980s.

Dream Cars on the other hand...

And they've got a Mercury nomination for it! Very Happy Though I've a sneaking suspicion that Radiohead will be walking away with the award this year.

Nominations:
Adele - 19
British Sea Power - Do You Like Rock Music?
Burial - Untrue
Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid
Estelle - Shine
Laura Marling - Alas I Cannot Swim
Neon Neon - Stainless Style
Portico Quartet - Knee-Deep in the North Sea
Rachel Unthank & The Winterset - The Bairns
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Robert Plant & Alison Krauss - Raising Sand
The Last Shadow Puppets - The Age of the Understatement

nah its neon neon. they've been on the culture show. that suggests they've crossed over to the sunday supplement crowd. so the prize is nailed.

though being unable to resist 14/1 i've probably cost 'em it.

i 'ave heard all but 2 of the nominations and neon neon is best by far. mind you last year maps was and didn't get it. just as well prizes are poxy. though having never won anything ever i would say that.

well ya within ya rights to slap, well not slap but verbally mock any half arsed professional writer who scribes predictable, piss easy lines about neon neon's tour...

i however am amateur so leave me be!

neon neon glowed, neon neon shone, neon neon beamed like a beacon in a sea of this years gig year of mediocrity. i was surprised that it wasn't a sell out at trinity but it was a decent crowd, and more importantly one that were there to see a band they loved, not there to be seen.

the visuals weren't working but, as increasingly is so, it just gave Gruff more comedy foil as he made do with flip chart scribbles and drawings which he held up at appropriate moments in the show. he may have used the applause! one too much though, tbh, there was plenty of reason to cheer 'em on. har mar superstar was just that - i'd only seen him once before (well twice if i can count forbes n me almost walking into him outside camden roundhouse before mbv in june) and he'd irritated me. but he was spectacular on tuesday and the rap on a handstand was every bit as cool as the clobber he wore - a proper entertainer who fully warrants his fanbase on this performance.

neon neons spectacular filtering of great 80s moments worked wonderfully live. micheal douglas a synth beat big beat match for blamange's living on the ceiling, raquel souding like practically every 80s 12" extended version i own, and sweat shop at least makes me think of the first few, er, hip hop/beatbox tunes i 'eard.

it all finished with a top dancin' rave out encore and i'll enjoy no other hour more this year.

oh and finally yo majesty was ace support and she is without doubt one of the nicest and genuine pop people i've ever had the pleasure of speaking to. so if ya goin' make sure you see her to!

I saw 'em on Tuesday... one of the gigs of the year for me, too AND we got a bit of We Are The World from them, led by Har Mar Superstar

Very Happy
