I was looking for a job. now I have one, and another part-time gig on weekends. and I have no time. I have to struggle just to get to read the paper and the Nation. ("are you coming in Saturday?... No?") 60 hours of poorly compensated work, a girlfriend, friends, family I'd like to see once in a while, a stupid fucking band I'm trying to get off the ground, and damn it I've got reading to do!

so thats where I've been the last 2 months. I'm done bitching now.

nope. well, I tell them no every week because I've got the other job on weekends. So I end up staying 3-4 hours overtime weekdays. I'd been under the impression we won the 8 hour day back in the 20's, but I guess thats only if you're union. I suppose that was just another history text lie. At any rate I've got a gig of chomsky lectures in mp3 now thanks to a good friend of mine, so I'm gonna pump those through my radio and seee what my supervisors have to say about that.

You know I used to think it was a hard life when my fingers bled and my back was crooked, working in a shoe factory in the Philipines, but now I realise that it's much worse to be waiting for some band to release a song or something to relieve my early twenties ennuie for ten seconds. Aint that right kids?

if you think i'm comparing my situation unfavorably to that of those in malaysia/indonesia/china/etc you're being a ridiculous petty emotional bastard. the argument that there are worse off in the world is no justification for treating anyone like shit. logically then under that reasoning indentured prostitutes in thailand should be greatful that they're not the victims of genocide.

sorry if I've read you wrong, though. its hard not to be paranoid when the entire world hates you for a bunch of shit your government is doing. I'd agree that lots of americans are fatcat enron neoliberal conservative fucks. but i'm not one of them and you know, there are a lot of very good people here who have tried like hell to prevent all this from happening. there's a limit to what mass demonstrations of hundreds of thousands of people can do. we don't have parliamentary democracy over here. we don't have representative democracy via runoff elections. we've got an intricate institutionalized system of bribery that allows the corporate wealth interests to determine not only dialog and debate through their mass media holdings, but also the legal and electoral processes themselves.

I think only a minority of people hate Americans based on what the American government is doing.
As an example, in 1979 when John Simpson (BBC reporter/author/cool dude) was in Iran he always found people very hospitable and kind to him even though they knew he was British and working with the BBC, in a time when people were chanting harsh things towards the British and American governments.

Of course there are fundementalists and fools who will judge an entire people based on their nation of origin but such people can be found everywhere and always have.

Love and Peace
