so,
how big is everyone's record collection?. Cause when I stop and look at mine I find it amazing the vast quantity of it, and i've only been collecting properly for the last 2 years or so.
And does everyone else keep them in alphabetical order (by artist), and then in year of release order, or is that just me

sad confession time - just went through and reorganised the whole bloody thing, putting it in as close to chronological order as i could manage. yeah, there's lots of it, and not a single year since about 1963 that's not represented, which I'm kind of proud of, but was surprised actually how few from each year I'd got. and how much of it is absolutely shit.

I have all my CDs in alphabetical order too (by artist) and I have probably a bit more than 300 CDs, vinyls and DVDs. _________________

every now and then i sort it out into alphabetical order but it rarely stays that way. now i tend to have current listens in whatever order that i keep in one area and the older stuff elsewhere in alphateical order. what i don't like now is hearing something on tele, knowing i've got it but not being able to say what it is. this is probably more to do with crap memory than anything else mind.
i have a mate who organised his records into categories (dance/indie etc) but if i ever did that i'd forget how i'd defined it and it'd be a nightmare!
oh and i do have some crap records but most of them are bloody great. |

you guys seen High Fidelity at all?
alphabetical by artist and chronological within the artist has seemed natural for me. Though I insist that solo artists be listed last name first as in
Bowie, David
. The one pain in the ass is I can't figure out how to order compilations and soundtracks. Like ok, the Velvet Goldmine soundtrack must go under "Velvet", but where do I put the "Amelie" soundtrack, whose music was composed and primarily performed by yann tiersen?
i've got upwards of 800 CDs. but before you criticize me class-wise keep in mind I've been listening since grade 7, and all through high school I had a job and nothing to spend my money on aside from records and drugs. |

I always let my brother buy CD's until I moved out 2 years ago, only buying CD's which I really truly loved.
I also had about 40 CD's stolen when at Uni
Without countin I think I have about 100 albums and 100 singles. _________________ "fashioned by the blade of a world that doesn't care,

I don't have that many singles actually... Most of the CDs I buy are mid-price or second hand stuff, I hardly ever buy new stuff. That's why my CD collection just grows and grows, but I don't think I've ever bought anything too bad... Except for a couple of ones, you can see them if you search for the ancient "Your darkest secrets" thread. _________________
