1. that guitar in 'running off the ground' at about 2'30" in. quite low in the mix. lasts to the end. miserable sounding. very sweeping. how does one recreate this? cos, i wanna rip it off. Sorry che mate, I haven’t got a clue what you are on about and I don’t have it to hand. Its probably me strumming dead fast up the neck with eight pints of distortion tied on to it with a bit of gaffa. 2. let it be vs. let it be... naked? Everything’s better naked clart .
3. did you get anything nice for xm*s? yes, ‘vernon god little’ er.. me mam bought me a toaster (thanks mum!) um.. a strange plant that eats cats and a train set and kerplunk 4. what the fuck is setareh on about? Her dad played footy in the world cup, she is under my protection and can say what she fucking likes. Whatever any of it means  5. fumer tue. Mainly on the right side.
1. How are you? Sober, it hurts a bit. Can’t sleep 2. When will the new album come out (ruffly) ? grrrrr soon ya bollock. 3. Will you be touring next year? Hope so mate, I need to get away. The question I have is firstly on the picture gallery for the making of AFM there were songs such as Pot Bellied Pigs and Who Wants to Kill a Millionaire (and earlier still tracks like a 1000 days and Zizou); I just wondered if they were ever going to see the light of day in some form or other because 1000 days for instance I regard as one of your finest songs when you played it live back in 2000. Don’t know, I really like that song as well even tho I can’t remember how it goes at the minute. Time only travels one way and some things fall off if you move too fast and you just gotta leave ‘em.
Secondly is there any chance of posting the lyrics for the i am a lion ep its a bit hard to catch them all (especially the ones with the voicecoder)
Sparky has them in his jacket pocket, ask him .
Do you think that your new songs are better than anything you've ever written before, or are you just experimenting and still trying to find your own way to express yourself? Some of the new songs are the best I’ve written in terms of how catchy they are. I am finding increasingly more difficult finding something to express as I slowly withdraw. Let’s see how long I can stay off the drugs for and maybe I’ll be a useful member of society once more with ideas and input and experience.
How are Sice and Tim and Bobby Boo doing these days? Very well. Sice is Mayor of somewhere, Tim is Headmistress at St Trinians and Bob hunts and kills coporate executives in his spare time. What goes through your head when you hear your own songs played somewhere? It could be a good feeling or even somewhat embarrassing, or something... Well how the f*ck could I know. It feels great although I never recognise them until halfway thru. Its what we always dreamt about. I saw an Ash single in some music shop a long time ago and I think one of the songs was written by you. I couldn't be arsed to buy it then but now I've been trying to find it again. So am I just wasting my time, have I been dreaming again, or did you really write a song for Ash? Is it any good?
I did yeah, it was a lovely ballady thing that I wrote the words for. Next time I heard it it sounded like motorhead. It’s the b-side to some single about summer. Will Aston Villa qualify for europe this year? Aww come on… If i offered you a million dollars would you do a one off boo radleys gig in chicago or will you yourself please perform here? Yes I fucking would.

do you remember opening for better than ezra (shite) in like 1997 in america after cmon kids? Yes, it was a grim tour, I was drinking far too much, some dates I couldn’t soundcheck in the afternoon ‘cos I was too hammered. Not cool.
any chance of releasing the internet only stuff on a proper cd for us that haven't the technology or the nouse to download it and burn it off or whatever they call it? I’d love to but I simply can’t afford it. I realise that this way isn’t ideal but it’s all there is. The album will be a proper release though. saw you when I went travelling in the US when the Boos played Boston in a little club in 1997 around the time of C'Mon Kids. It was a brilliant gig, but what did you think of the locals who would just stand there with their arms folded? I thought they were from the record company. - Will "Ichabod & I" be releases on CD one day? No 2- Dear Martin, when will you come back in France? As soon as somebody asks me to .
We are so fan of You Here (I remember the thank letter you wrote for the Inrockuptibles)?
3- When will you propose un chat on the Internet? Soon as somebody asks me to. 4- Do you still use some Helium for your voice in a gig? Not after last time. Me eyes nearly popped out me head. 5- Wher have you been ??? Here, brother, always here..
(I will always ask you wher you've been event though I know the answer...)
1) You used to be a big fan of The Manics. Do you ever listen to any of their old records now or have you given up on guitar music completely? I lost interest in the manics after design for life. Its not guitar music I don’t like, it’s the shitty bands that play it. Don’t the manics work in advertising now? They must need the bread. 2) Which song from the past year do you wish you’d written? Not from last year but XO by Elliot Smith (r.i.p). Impossibly beautiful. Er.. Milkshake. 3) Are you not tempted to write another big “Wake Up Boo” style pop song which might get in the charts, allow you to sell more records and therefore do more tours? Or would that be selling out to The Man? Its not something that you set out to do. Having hit records isnt selling out. I would love to sell more records. I’m not being deliberately obscure, all I can do is make ‘em. 4) Liam Gallagher – Rock God or arrogant buffoon? Occasionally very funny, havent seen him for years. Lost interest when be here now came out. Are they still going?

Do you think you will be working with music for a living for the rest of your life? If not, what could you imagine doing? I would like to but have to pay bills, the end is nigh. I’m gonna be a train driver WOOH WOOH! Do you write lyrics first or music? Could be both, music usually. Celebrities who do charity and are vocal about it, what do you think? Couldn’t give a fuck, if yr doing something yr doing something no matter what yr true intention. Take me for instance, yesterday I ran fifty miles for the cardiff beard injury society but I would never mention it. And I got seventy grand . What software do you use for performing/ recording? Cubase SX2.0 for recording/ Ableton Live 2.0 for live.
How about samples? Do you make your own or use "proprietary" ones? Bits of both.

Are you recording everything digitally to hard drives or just your loops? I recorded the whole album on my laptop except for a few bits I did with kris Jenkins on his computer. I do use *gasp* real instruments as well.
Same goes for mixing. Is it through a PC ( and if so what do you use?) or does it all end up going through a desk and to tape? Same as above. Are you recording more "at home" now or still going "into the studio"? Same as above (sorry I’m being very lazy this time). BC: If there is one thing I should in my life, what should it be? Empathy.
oohh....and...

What's your favourite takeaway after a night on the beers (important question I feel, to get an insight into the man)
As soon as I have a drink all thoughts of food fly out the window. On the rare occasion that I do feel the need I just get chips. Very rare. How was your New Year's Eve? Beer, vodka, absinthe, e, acid, charles and weed. It was my last stand and it was great. Went to see the mighty GLC and then partied with the Zabrinski boys until the next afternoon. Never again. 2. Do you still make videos for any of your music? If not, why not? Do you like music videos? What are your all-time faves? I cant afford to do videos and Ive never enjoyed doing them. My favourite is ‘Gimme Some More’ by Busta Rhymes. 3. Musically (ie both with BC and in terms of other people's music) - what excites you most about 2004? Nothing yet.
4. Which band would you like to see reform in 2004? Which band would you like to see split in 2004?
The Delphonics/all of ‘em

any producers you'd like to work with? Neptunes please. any musicians/singers you'd really like to have on your newest work? don't suppose you could tempt Sice out of retirement just for 5 minutes to duet with you?? Sice had is voice box removed and has had it replaced with a little fishtank, its rather lovely. Gerard Houllier - should he stay or should he go? GO! Merci and all that but dans ton bicyclette clart.

and do you ever go to Anfield? No, I had to give up when I moved here, too expensive. I miss the place.
2. don't mean to be nosey, but do you get any money from your old Boo Radleys releases now? I want to give loads of people b-sides compilations, but I'd hate to do you out of money I get a bit of money from wake up boo but you go for it mate, spread the word.

3. do you have much control over that stuff? I mean, if you wanted to release or re-release anything? I'd like to see more Boos videos sometime - I've only ever seen Ride The Tiger and Wake Up Boo! don't suppose there'll ever be a compilation? The Boo’s back catalogue has nothing to do with me. All our videos were shit anyway except for ride the tiger.
4. got a name for the next Bravecaptain LP yet? Yes thank you 5. I never got to see the Boos live, nor have I seen Bravecaptain, and it's not looking like I'll get the chance, so can you tell me where I put the video tape with you and the rest doing Ride The Tiger on the Late Late Show (in Ireland) in about '96? Its under that thing with the wotsit on it, you know, the red one. I'll die happy if I find that.

6. can I send you a late birthday present... sometime next February or March (probably), and where would I send it to? Yes please, I’ll get back to you.
7. Republican governments in the U.S. provoke good art, according to Marilyn Manson, a few years back. any thoughts on that comment now, all things considered?! Like, would you swap what we have (or, don't have) now for a peaceful but artless world? Oh no, here come Ocean Colour Scene with that song about profit... Art is at its most powerful when its responding to the shitty side of life Guernica, 1984, shipbuilding, tainted love by marilyn manson ha ha ha.

What made you want to do one of these again? I'd be far too lazy to answer all these questions. Did someone make you do it? I wanted to do it but now my fingers hurt and theres no more roadies to kiss them better .

2. Did you read Bootleg Betsy? What did you think of it? I think its fucking brilliant. Sorry about all the speling mistakes but we can't afford proper keyboards. That’s ok thes keebord carnt spel neever .Proof-reading is also a boring waste of time. Your interview could have been presented in a much better way, sorry. It's still funny though.
but is there a track or two you'd like to cover - maybe something a bit off the wall that you'd sing in the bath? Innervisions – Stevie Wonder 1) what's your favourite Bukowski book? Ham On Rye
2) Will houllier be manager of LFC next season? Not if I can help it. 3) What inspired 'Third unattended bag...' (a great song to come off nightshift to) band splitting up/depression/weller/illness It’s a happy song! 4) When's the next Brave Captain LP out?. Soon, my friend, soon. 1. You said a while ago you might have to get a job. Did you, and if so what is it and how's it going? Haven’t done it yet, have applied for the army.
2. Why was I want a rainbow nation not given a proper release, as it's great? Because we did it in the wrong key.
3. Who do you want as next LFC manager after we lose to Yeovil on Sunday? (I'm in a positive frame of mind today ) S’gotta be Martin hasn’t it. 4. Why are you spelling Shankly with an "e"? Ooops, I copied it off a page and pasted it.

1) If you had released kingsize as a single (off kingsize) and it had been a top 10 hit would you have split the band at the time you did? Yeah, we were about to be dropped, it wasn’t our decision. I was really, really hating it then as well.
2) You won't allow wake up boo to be used on adverts (as i understand) however the commercial entities concerned will just use another song anyway (and probably a crap one that wont enable me to nudge the mrs on the couch and go "boo radleys!") so why not say yes and have more money? or, alternatively donate the revenue to a cause you believe in. I’m not in the business of trying to sell people crap that they cannot afford. I despise marketing and adverts. When somebody hears one of my songs I don’t want them to think about some fucking car or hairspray. I don’t want one of my songs to come on while I’m trying to watch a film, its so rude. Its as if a crowd of suits had burst into yr living room and opened their suitcases trying to sell you a pile of shit that you don’t need. Manics, blur, weller, I don’t get it, do they need money that fucking bad? Greed aint my game. Over my dead body. 3) Hindsight is a wonderful thing. What you have done differntly with the boos (commercially) if you could go back. (you are not allowed to say nothing, its a sort of special rule i am putting in this question!) I wouldn’t have released shit like ‘its lulu’ that’s for sure. I hate that fucking record.
Hope I am not too late captain sir but have only just come round from the ex-servicemans club Boxing Day booze up! Is there any chance of you playing a date in Rhyl this year? (if not Prestatyn or Colwyn Bay will do at a push) Cheers Ken. Yeah man, what date is good for you? In an interview a few years ago you said you wanted to expand the subject matter in your songs, as you usually sang about 3 only. Do you think you've succeeded? No I’ve de - spanded. I’m down to two now.

Sice really sings "all that I want is to find some piece of ass" at the end of Ride The Tiger,
doesn't he? No, Sice is an angel. He wouldn’t know what it meant.

is that you singing lead vocals on "friendship song"? Yes, except for the high bits. Crap innit?

1. Was 'Free Huey' your choice for a single? I'm not questioning the choice, 'Free Huey' is fookin ace, but did you have some other song in your mind perhaps, and was it difficult to make the choice? It was all my fault.
2. Why was 'Kingsize' (single) never officially released?
Creation told us they were gonna drop us because we were shit and expensive. 

It's good to hear that you like your new album... Hopefully I like it too! Ha ha ha. If it's anything like the songs you played in Cardiff it should be ace once again. Keep up the good work, don't lose the faith and don't ever leave us. Or something.

Do do dee daa doo... la la la la laa...
Yes, you were right about the Love album too.

Thanks for that Martin.

Don’t be so downbeat about Liverpool FC though, we’ll get in the Champions League and win the UEFA Cup this year. Then Owen will stay with us, we’ll sign Cisse and next year will thrill the world with our attacking, creative football. Honestly.
