So Mr Sturrock is gone... I know how you probably feel now. Danny Wilson who did a little miracle and got Barnsley promoted to the Premier League (and relegated as well) - then after that season he left to Sheffield Wednesday and that's the most shocking thing anyone somehow involved with Barnsley FC can do!
I felt a little sad when I heard about Gudjon Thordarson's (former Barnsley manager) sacking, but I wasn't very surprised. I don't think that Barnsley's recent bad run in the league was the only reason, I'm quite sure that Peter Ridsdale had his "own man" in his mind all the time. You know, Ridsdale and Hart both used to be in Leeds...
Gudjon Thordarson was (and still is I guess) a good manager in my opinion, Barnsley fans' expectations just got too high after a miraculous start for the season. I hope he finds a new club soon.
Paul Hart... I must admit that I didn't know much about him before I heard the news! I've heard that he's an excellent coach and likes to work with youngsters, but his reputation as a manager isn't that great. But I will give him my full support and I hope and believe that he will do just fine!
I think Plymouth has offered a free coach travel for everyone to Barnsley on the match day to thank their fans of fantastic support during the Notts County game... That's quite nice, you're missing a great opportunity here!
I don't know if you should feel any more pessimistic about getting a good resuly in Barnsley because of Paul Hart's appointment... We still haven't won for quite a while.
Hopefully this all makes some sense. God I'm tired. _________________

I went to Notts, the support was amazing. Absolutely top class. Such a show of unity between club n fans. Even in a season where our travelling support has been first class, it was very special. Its a great gesture on the clubs part, but i won't be taking part as (i) i'd have to travel over 100 miles back to the west country to pick the coaches up and (ii) i'm on me hols! Its a good omen that i'm no going to Oakwell as we only win there when I don't go there! (I was there last season for the 1-1 Mr Boo!) |

This is how ambitious Sheffield United are about getting promoted and staying there.
They've just sold the ONLY PLAYER WHO KNEW WHERE THE BACK OF THE NET WAS!!!!!!!

Some football news...
Sheffield United have signed defender
Simon Francis
for £200K from Bradford. Not necessarily a bad signing, but quite a lot of money for a 19-year old youngster. Kris, any idea why they sold Paul Peschisolido, by the way?
England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson is still hoping that Rio Ferdinand will have his drugs ban cut so he can play for England in Euro 2004... No way! He should have got a longer ban anyway, if he plays in Euro 2004 I will strangle someone. (well, not really)
Manchester City shocked Manchester United in the local derby yesterday - a magnificent 4-1 victory for City! (excellent!) United can finally say goodbye for their Premier League dreams.
The rumours say that Man United have set up a helpline for fans who are gutted by their lack of success so far this season. It's
0800 10 10 10
- that's 0800 won-nothing, won-nothing, won-nothing. (hee hee)
Liverpool were shite, they lost 2-0 against Southampton (away) and Barnsley lost 2-1 (also away) in the hot local derby against Sheffield Wednesday (argh). Chelsea and Arsenal both won their matches 0-2 and looks like Arsenal are going to win the Premier League this season.
Bad news for Paul and good news for Kris: Norwich lost 2-1 against Cardiff and Sheffield United beat Watford away 0-2. United still have a good chance for straight promotion then...
In Division Two Plymouth and QPR both won their matches, Bristol City didn't play. Doncaster played 1-1 against Cheltenham.

Apparently Peshy was offered a new contract but decided it was time to move on.
That's the clubs view of course. Because why would anyone leave a club fighting for promotion to join a team fighting against relegation???
I'm utterly certain it's Sheffield United PLC's utter lack of ambition that resulted in Peshy's "offer" being sub-standard and giving him little choice.
As for fighting for automatic promotion. I think we are far too inconsistent. We are either very good or absolutely awful depending on which way the wind blows. The sad fact is that we have a lot of spirit, but very little actual quality, and we pin our hopes on certain players that should have been put out to pasture long ago _________________ "fashioned by the blade of a world that doesn't care,

| was very happy to see us (plymouth) win at home on tuesday nite. very scrappy game between sides desparate for points but we scored a quality 1st goal so it was worth going down for. just as well we won too 'cos i don't expect us to get anything at luton 2morrow. we dunno who r new boss will b, we all want warnock (if he does "retire" from sheff utd in the summer) but nasty rumour man has peter reid or bobby williamson (hibs) as favourite. but with everyone from colin lee to the manager of clyde being linked with it i don't think any choice would surprise me! |

So Arsenal aren't the best team in the history of the world. And much as I hate Chelsea I'm pleased for Ranieri, he seems like a nice bloke and will always be welcome at John Mc Towers.
Does anyone know who's doing Englands Euro 2004 song? Didn't the Boo Radleys offer to do the World Cup '98 tune? |

| The talk on the radio is Blazing Squad have been given the opportunity to soundtrack England in Euro 2004. If this is so, then an inglorious 1st round exit is a must.[/quote] |

| Blazing Squad?! Is that the best England can manage? I think Trevor Brookings remit at the FA should be widened to include looking into why we've gone from New Order to Blazing Squad in 14 short years. If they do the song then I'm supporting Latvia. |

| Its sad news that Diego Maradona is in a critical condition in hospital. He may be a fat, druggy mess these days but he's the best footballer I've ever seen and is much cooler than Pele. |

Dave W you are right, Kewell really can't tackle. I don't know what's wrong with him but he looks awful at the moment. Bizarrely I thought our best player on Saturday was Smicer who at least went looking for the ball and didn't hide.
The atmosphere around Anfield is really odd at present, no-one's shouting for Houllier to go but everyone seems really tense thats obviously affecting the players. Not sure where we go from here, its quite possible that we won't even get a UEFA Cup spot never mind a Champions League place. |
