Rolling Eyes

he does fuck all, really.

i'm not a big fan of u2 or bono, but i think you have to give him some credit. like it or not, having a celebrity voice does seem to add weight to a campaign, and it's arguable that something like the drop the debt issue would have been less well publicised without him and others.

it's certainly easier to respect people who dedicate themselves to this work without seeking the limelight, and it does seem a bit twisted for a multi-millionaire to be banging on about poverty. but, i assume, bono is just a guy who's trying to do what he thinks is the right thing. and, to my mind, he does more good than harm.

He does more good than bad was my point thank-you very much. What have you done to save the world recently?

do you reckon he has sold more people on the idea of peace and tolerance than he has sold ipods to people who can't afford 'em?

Well he's been advertising iPods to people for 5 minutes and pushing various charitable issues for twenty years so yeah I do. Also, if you can't afford to buy an ipod, but do cos Bono sings a song, then you're a fucking idiot plain and simple.

apart from the fact no one's making me out to be a saint when I'm really an ego maniac (which I'm not... either of them... although gillworm will no doubt say I'm the latter), I keep anything I do for charity as my business, and don't go round expecting everyone to think I'm great for it.

but poor Bono, he hated the line in Do They Know It's Christmas? so much, he got on a plane to get to the studio to sing it, despite there being others willing to do it. It pained him to sing it, apparently.
Bless him. Rolling Eyes

there are loads who do a lot more for charity and don't go round looking for photo opportunities with supposed important people when doing so

I just find this whole thread quite distasteful.

Yeah he sells iPods. Yeah he get's his photo taken with powerful people. Yeah he's made some shocking tunes in the last 20 years. YES HE IS AN EGOMANIAC.

He's STILL done more good than bad. He's still promoted more peace than any of us on this board will ever do. And if getting your photo taken with people is a way of a) opening yourself up to cynical criticism, but b) bringing a lot more attantion to a good cause, then fuck it, I'll call him a egomaniacal Saint.

allegedly, he does a lot for charity, and I don't mean posing with some politician who just thinks he'll look cool if he poses with the rockstar

has set up charities, has given millions to charities, has already been given awards (which weren't very publicised... I even read that he was on the Nobel Prize list last year, altho someone involved with that also reportedly said it wasn't more than a token gesture)

but I don't see any fucker callin him a saint Wink

Hmm, and there is obviously a very big reason for nobody calling him a saint Wink

Actually, now I think about it, I've never heard anyone call Bono a saint either, certainly not on this board. However, I'm sure if it was to transpire that Bono allegedly fucked young boys, whoever it is calling him a Saint would cease to do so.

And Bono's charity work put's my own efforts to shame too. I'm not competing with nobody though , and I would say neither is Bono.

i refuse to believe that bongo has done more for peace than i have. i didn't realise you had to do it on the telly, or alongside other great men of peace, say fr' instance, george bush. i thought you promoted peace through yr actions and the things you do everyday. what does his diary look like?

monday - make album

tuesday - promote peace

wednesday - put subliminal psychological pressure on behalf of my paymasters on dull and uninformed minds. the i-pods i promote are no better than the normal ones but they have my brand on which makes them special. if people buy them it means that i am special. so what's new?

thursday - album sells fucking loads.

friday- count money, look in mirror etc

....only joking, everyone's great!
