Agree about the poppy - I've known a few servicemen who quit in their late 20s 'cos they've felt that far from being there to defend a country they were there to be used and abused. I've know plenty others stay in it to 'cos they get mortgages and such like and depend on the income, can't afford to quit etc. It was heart breaking seeing the friends of the Scottish guys who got killed in Iraq 2 weeks ago on the news. Such a young age and so taken advantage of by their "democrtatic" country - I get less and less patriotic the older I get - All I really care about is family and friends, my country means sweet fa, particularly when you see young lads dying so pointlessly and needlessly for it. So i'll always support rememberance day if only 'cos people need its charity and we should never forget the lives lost for honourable (WWII)- and horrible this - dishonurable (now!) causes.
The debate about spoiling yer ballot paper as a protest was done and dusted many threads ago but I will say that I do really believe we need PR in this country now if the vote is to have any power again. The current system gives us very little real choice on polling day and the country is suffering from years of the ruling party having far too bigger a majority - I will turn up to vote at the next election but I can't say I've faith in any of the choices on offer to me. |

you have to vote. as much as yer options suck. otherwise yer just letting them have their way with you. even if you're gonna be on the shit end either way, you are obligated to put up a fight. if you're gonna lose, at least lose proper. _________________ "Even I know the solution: love, music, wine and revolution..."
