I have never, ever heard a more banal band than Keane. If you can think of one, name it. This has now turned into the "Name a Band More Trite Than Keane Thread"... Wink

I quite liked 'this is the last time' but the other songs i have heard are a bit shit. And i thought the last Travis album was cack. My god.....

How about Toploader? They were rather trite.

I haven't heard the Keane album or any songs on it...

Travis, Coldplay, Radiohead etc etc - they all have a couple of good tunes that I really like for a while until I get bored, but my god most of their stuff is absolute shite. Yes you heard it right, it's shite . And they all sound like the same, if you listen to their albums carefully you can hear the same guitar comps (Travis), the melancholious melodies and sometimes annoyingly whiny voice (Coldplay, Radiohead)...
However, I must admit that I have the first three Travis albums and some EPs, but they should have just released one best of collection instead of all that crap. And guess what - their b-sides are absolutely fucking awful !
I think I have some album by Radiohead too but I never really liked it and I can't even remember what it's called. They're much too overrated in my opinion, they don't sound that special to me. I have two albums by Toploader as well but I've never listened to the other one (I think it's called 'Onka's Big Moka' and I have no idea what it means). The other one, 'Magic Hotel' is a proper summer album - some awfully happy tunes, I guess you could like them if you really were feeling that happy. Not exceptionally good, not even good actually, but not really that bad either.

Yeah, Toploader and Travis are pedestrian rubbish. Good choices. Any more for any more? Smile

I know its deeply uncool to say it but I like Travis. Their first album was the best of a bad post Definitely Maybe bunch and all of their subsequent albums have had at least 4 or 5 good tracks. "Side" is a great pop tune, "More Than Words" is lovely and I thought "Re-Offender" was superb. They're not a band that are likely to inspire you to have their name tattooed across your forehead but I think they're under rated.

On the other hand I don't understand the appeal of Radiohead. I listened to OK Computer for a month when it first came out trying to hear what everyone was raving about and still didn't get it.

All credit to them though for coming back with something totally different for the follow up album (Kid A). I didn't like that either but at least they were a bit adventurous rather than just releasing a weaker facsimilie of their previous album (like Great Escape after Parklife, TIMTTMY after Everything Must Go and Room on Fire after Is This It). Bands who have a successful album and therefore the attention of the world should take risks. They might change the world and if they don't then at least they've got the cash/prestigue from their previous album to fall back on. Although it sold nothing at the time if The Beastie Boys hadn't "Pauls Boutique" after "License To Ill" then no-one would give a shit about them today.

However the exception to the "you should change a winning formula" rule is Westlife. Whereas other boy bands want to take control of their careers and go off in hip hop directions they just keep churning out the ballads and racking up the number 1 singles. I think thats infinitely preferable to hearing Jon from S Club 7's rock album.

It's not really 'uncool' to say that you like Travis, because everyone can listen to anything they want... I quite like Travis too, well, some of their songs. Unfortunately most of their songs aren't very good in my opinion.
'Side' is a top tune indeed and so is 'Sing' and the single songs of "The Man Who". The first album was a refreshingly different album when it was released indeed, but I always skip most of the songs and only listen to my favourites on it - so it's not a good album , it only has a couple of good songs on it.
And yes, 'Re-Offender' was a very positive surprise indeed. I haven't actually heard the new album yet... Is it worth buying?

I was a big travis fan. I love The Man Who. But you have to admit that last album they put out was fucking crap. Re-offender is a nice song but the rest can fuck off

Writing To Reach you is a fucking amazing song, but I'm in total agreement with Ken here, there rest of it is so OK and I'd rather it be offensive or awful than merely that.

OK Computer is my second favourite album of all time.

other shit boring bands......

OCEAN COLOUR SCENE - FUCK OFF!!
and I know a lot of people like them but I just don't get it...... ELBOW.

I can see why people would think of Travis as being dull. Although I like "Good Feeling" I hated all the singles from "The Man Who" when they came out. But my brother listened to the album lots so I heard them and gradually the songs wore me down and I ended up liking them. I think they do simple, melancholy songs really well.
