I managed to watch most of it (though my little boy couldn't sleep so couldn't concentrate too much).
It seemed reasonable and had a couple of funny bits. Unfortunately he'll never shake off the office. Not with this anyway... so far |

I thought it was OK but I find some of Ricky Gervais stuff a bit nasty, especially his stand up stuff. If Jim Davidson made a sitcom where one of the jokes was taking the piss out of a bloke with a disability he'd get slaughtered for it but if Ricky Gervais does it then its seen as post modern and clever. |

I thought extras was a decent first episode.
Agree about the stand up stuff, the politics thing said very close to jd terrority and was largely full of playground gags. When it comes to taht sort of comedy Al Murray shows far more self depreciation and a deeper understanding of irony and even he cuts it fine at times. |

I would agree but isn't one of his co-writers also disabled (or was that just on The Office)? |

I think the plus side of disabled situations (and i use that phrase 'cos i can't think of a fairer one) is at least it ain't patronising. One of the great things about Phoenix Nights is that the lead charachter is in a wheelchair and is as prone to gag taking as he is to receiving them - far more normal and far more positive than the awwww bless patronising roles that were more common place. Read Ian Dury's bigography if you want a more articulate and personal view point on this! |

Bound to turn up on BBC3 sometime soon (if you have access to such channels) as most BBC comedy is shown on there shortly after the original screening. |

I object to the second episode on the grounds that it was bollocks, its just a series of poor sketches joined together with no story. |
