Miami Vice. not quite as good as I expected and definitely more violent that I expected! it looks amazing of course, that much you would expect from a Michael Mann film, but I felt like I'd been thrown in the middle of something way over my head at first and struggled to get to grips with the beginning of the story.
I never felt I got to know the central characters and I'm afraid I don't get the allure of Colin Farrell - Jamie Foxx was much more interesting. and it's true that the women didn't get much of a look in. the one female character that looked interesting was neutered when she fell for Sonny - she promised the be a sharp, stylish businesswoman and ended up being simply the love interest. shame.
anyway, the bad guys lost, the good guys prevailed, and the girlfriend who got blown up and shouldn't have survived did indeed wake up with barely a scratch visible! worth going for the rush. I'm tempted to see it again to get the story straight in my head!
I saw it at a Vue cinema - i think I've only been to the one, in Islington, very nice experience, even the 'small' screens are clean, spacious and have generous sized screens. _________________ (and gillworm! she's so funny!) |

Miami Vice was awful, I thought it was going to be top wisecracking buddy cop action but it was a load of dull blokes wandering around in the dark muttering things I didn't understand with occasional explosions. However I did get an ice cream in the cinema which had mini Malteasers on and they were bloody ace. |

Capote! Really good but unsettling. Plus it has a Boo's link as Harper Lee is in it and Capote can be heard whistling the melody to "C'mon Kids!" in a couple of scenes. |

Borat. The naked wrestling has to be seen to be believed.

Saw III. Not as good as the other two, but a fitting conclusion to the trilogy. The fact that they got cast members from the other two films to reprise their roles in brief cameos was a pleasant surprise.
They did up the gore and cut back on the "intellectual horror" side of things though. Shame. _________________ "It's too beautiful to stay inside..." |

Dunno mate, but it's worth the travel. Top film.

Much as it pains me to say it, but the new James Bond is pretty ace... My girlfriend loves them, but always been a bit cheesy for me. This was a lot more gritty though... If it had been anything other than a James Bond I doubt it would have got a 12 Cert. _________________ Scattershot Writing: www.jameseverington.blogspot.com |

John's film round up:
Casino Royale - Ace but a bit too long. People playing cards does not good cinema make.
Borat - Smug.
Jackass 2 - Ace.
Pans Labyrinth - Absolutely stunning. You know how you hear something like "Cowgirl" or "Good Vibrations" and can't begin to imagine how someone would dream up something like that and then go on to fully realise it? You don't? Do I have too much time on my hands? Possibly. Anyway, if you did then that's what Pans Labyrinth is like. |

I finally saw Dogville, I don't know what to think...for a good part of the film I was damning Lars von Trier because I thought it was going to be another "Dancer In The Dark".
But the ending redeemed it, all that hurt and cruelty meant something and it felt like he maybe tried to say something.

my haul (so far) from the sales, all films that would go in my top howevermany films:
Syriana
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
The Constant Gardener
oh the joy of dvds, now that I've put my video of Crouching tiger...in the charity bag, there's room on the shelf for 3 dvds in the vacated space. _________________ (and gillworm! she's so funny!) |
