I had a back operation at the beginning of December and for three weeks have been laid out recovering. A friend at work gave me the first 4 series on DVD to watch during this time.

I haven't enjoyed a tv programme that much for a long time....

Anyone else's thoughts on SFU?

woah, that's a lot to watch in such a short space of time Shocked

SFU was great... the only TV show I've followed all of in years. First two seasons were probably best, but it recovered from its small dip in quality in the 5th series. Seriously, the very first show, especially, and the very last show (that closing sequence was genius) have to be two of the best pieces of television drama ever - and I disliked nearly every character in it, and still watched! Funny as fuck at times, too.

And I noticed that they used Cowboy Junkies, Beta Band & Blue Nile songs....Not bad at all.

I did indeed go through thinking how much I disliked vaious characters....but the strorylines just kept getting better.

And if you've got it, go back and look at the DVD of 'Divorcing Jack' (the Colin Bateman book). Rachel Griffiths (Brenda) was in that film...and boy has she changed!

It's not as if she was overly shy in SFU!

Anyone know when the new series starts in the UK? I know they are part way through the final series in the US...

the final series of SFU has finished in the US, has been shown on E4 in the UK, and possibly on Channel 4 too (but I'm thinking not to the latter)

Didn't see the show but I love Blue Nile! Hats is my favourite album, with Downtown Lights and Headlights On The Parade being the best tracks.
Are you also a fan?

Maybe these furrows I plough are not so lonely!

Yes Indeed. Not really so sure about their latest efforts, but 'Walk Across the Rooftops' and 'Hats' are of twp of my favourite albums of the 1980s. with 'Hats' being 40 minutes of absolute beauty. Downtown Lights, Headlights on the Parade, Let's Go Out Tonight and Saturday Night....all brilliant.

I went to their first ever gig in London (1990 I think) and ended up sitting next to Chrissy Hind and right behind Peter Gabriel. It was an amazing experience. A theatre full of people who all knew about this secret called The Blue Nile.

Those first two albums were released on Linn Records and were used at the time to demo Linn Hi-Fi - and because of that I started to buy (when I could afford it) Linn Hi-Fi. 15 years later and I'm proud to have a complete Linn Hi-Fi AV system (Be proud - Britain make the best hi-fi equipment in the world) with the Linn Unidisk 1.1 Universal Player at the core of it. It is just breathtaking to hear music played through this system or to watch DVDs on it.
