i had to laugh, reading the White Stripes interview in Q magazine - in the studio they had a swear box...the worst swear word you could use? 'computer'!! |

If Jack White is such a traditionalist, then he should disband that piece of electric equipment he calls a guitar. Back in the day, Dylan was ridiculed by the traditionalists for using it, but it created an exciting sound and moved music forward.
now computers are capable of creating exciting sounds, and they are also new electrical equipment. What is the problem with them? |

Don't mind any band sticking to an established genre if thats what there good at it but the snobbery/elitism that seems to be behind 'em is annoying and they are one of the worst bands i've ever ENDURED (and I mean endured) live. Oh and the kills are loads loads better at that sorta thing. |

the white stripes are wonderful! how can anyone fail to observe this blindingly obvious point?
electric 6 have one and a half good songs (saw them live a few months ago and everything else was kind of dull. they even covered queen for gods sake)
and the kills are the worst band i've seen in about 10 years! |

yep, I don't deny it. But the stodgy traditionalism is irritating. |

It's like a busker with drums or your crappest blues/jazz/ cuntry night in a pub full of beardies. |

.... which'd be much more entertaining than the whitestripes live. I did buy da stijl, liked half of it, thought it had good traits of Tom Waits in places too. Saw 'em live and it put me off 'em, couldn't get the 3rd album 'cos the live thing put me off so much. Told the new album is pretty good but those whom I know have it all say the Kills is better. And I ain't gonna argue!
Carter USM were a better two piece than all of them though!!!!!! |

Suicide. Suicide were a decent two-piece band. white stripes are just boring white guy garage band blues, with a twist of pop and a splash of irony. no better than BluesHammer, for those of you who've seen Ghost World.... _________________ "Even I know the solution: love, music, wine and revolution..." Okay, I don't usually take part in this kind of argument, but here goes...
This kind of music bores me to tears. White Stripes, Electric 6, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Hot Hot Heat, The Music, The Datsuns. Any others? Probably but I can't think at the moment. This "retro" thing and this latest fad of "garage" stuff might interest others, but not me.
Incidentally, has anyone else heard "Son Of Evil Reindeer" by the Reindeer Section? Personally, I love it. Especially the cameo from Idlewild's Roddy Woomble for the vocals on "Who Told You?".

The Strokes totally rule though, I don't care how much they sound like a 70s band, when you take away all the oldie effects and stuff the basic melodies and structure of the songs are marvelous.
Just listen to the bassline of "Is This It"...yeaha! They may be similiar to all those other bands you mentioned Melz, to an outsider, but dig deeper and the Strokes are the best.

May main listening tastes at the moment revolve around James Lavelle RJD2, Radiohead and Zabrinski.
But The Strokes have put out the best album since Kingsize and I don't give a fuck who disagree's

The Strokes debut is ace. And they might well be middle class but it ain't fair to hold someones class against them, no one can choose their family etc. I'm well in love with the latest Yo La Tengo album. And i'm getting into Out Hud too. Impressed with their support slot for Radio 4 but thought the vocals let 'em down a bit, happily the album i got yesterday is instrumental. And its pretty nice too. |
