Now i'm not a great fan of the old cheesy pop and sentimental ballardry of Eurovision, but when i got home late last night flicking through the tele i came across a programme showing some of the highs (and lows) over the years.

However it appears that the Finnish entry for this year is a full blown Slipknot / gwar- esque rock anthem with masks and everything.

Can TommyBoo elucidate further.... Twisted Evil

Every song is a cry for a punch in the face ... was the caption on the front of an Irish newspaper today, with reference to the Irish entry, Every Song Is A Cry For Love

thankfully, we haven't a hope of winning. They've been using that episode of Father Ted as a blueprint ever since, probably

no, I prefer Generation Sex Wink

(only thing I ever bought by them, and I've not listened to it in years - I bought it more for the b-side, which I hadn't heard but liked the title, Chasing Sheep Is Best Left To Shepherds, or something. Kinda disappointing to hear it was an instrumental...)

The Finnish entry is amazing. My Finnish friend is so proud of her country!

Have you seen the English one though? Good grud, it's so cringeworth, and kinda creepy. Weird slightly-too-old rapper bloke looking uncomfortable, with sexy schoolgirls dancing around desks.

nah, I've not been following it at all... can't stand it. Used to like the voting at the end, but I think it's more rigged than ever now

The Swedish one is pretty crap. Sweden didn't get many point last year but I liked the song (in its context of course!), the verses especially and thought it stood out at least.

Sweden's entry this year is Carola...but there have talks of mistakes in the phone voting. She has a following in Sweden but the song just isn't that good...it's acceptable. And she can sing but her smile is fake and hey eyes looks empty...check it out!

I watch it every year and complain how crap it is. It puzzles me how much bad music there is.
In the old days at least there was the exotica of all those languages and cultural differences. Now they're all like bad regular pop stars...haha.

Love & Peace

I put 20 euros on finland two weeks ago at 40/1 on betfair. As soon as I saw them, I thought definite winners. Our own entry (ireland) is a soppy ballad affair, don't think it will do well. Lithuania also have an interesting entry, a bunch of blokes dancing around shouting "We are the winners of the eurovision!!!" Might also win on novelty...my favourite entry though (I watched the preview last saturday, I love the eurovision) are the germans..tehy are doing country western thing and it's cheesetastic with a great song to boot. Eurovision is still worth a watch every year, but I find some of the more group-based efforts you know with all the drummers and azerbejan flutes and whatever a bit depressing, but that's what's popular in a lot of countries, so fair enough, I mean who am I to critisise the taste of 400 million people (or whatever!!)

Television highlight of the year, this. Very Happy

The German entry is always a winner. Remember a few years ago when they entered a rapper who ripped off the Spice Girls? Of course, it was infinitely better than "Daz", who I am sure will be a hit next year in the Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia.

Altogether now: "I want to shower you with sugarlumps and ride you over fences..."
