It seems that every other band that ever split and can still reform, has. So, I think it's about time the Boos jumped on the 'regroup' bandwagon.

just kidding or am I? ...

I'm really just wondering if anyone can tell me which well-known music publications, exactly, gave Giant Steps their 'album of the year' (and was it the writers, the readers, or both)? The Wikipedia entry says both Select and NME gave it album of the year, but there's a clipping on the Giant Steps 'minisite' that suggests NME (its writers, at least) had it down as #2 (and we all know, since childhood, that 2nd is the best! Unless, of course, you're first, and first is everything; Bill Shankly would tell you that much). I always thought it was Melody Maker, actually...

It was number two in the NME writers poll...
http://www.rocklistmusic.co.uk/1993.html

...but the public voted it number one in the Brat Awards...
http://www.nme.com/awardshistory/1994

...it was number 30 in the Melody Maker writers poll...
http://www.rocklistmusic.co.uk/mmlists_p2.htm#1993

but, most importantly, it was number one in the Select writers poll
http://www.rocklistmusic.co.uk/select.html#1993

When I'm rich i'm gonna resurrect Select magazine.

Tune of the day: Starman by David Bowie, especially the beginning bit

we're not alone...

today, in the music section on Channel 4 Teletext, the Boos got two mentions!

1. on page 347 [subpage 7/8]
TOP 10 'SOUND LIKE CHRISTMAS' SONGS
1. Tonight The Streets Are Ours - Richard Hawley
2. Atmosphere - Joy Division
3. One More Chance - Candie Payne
4. Baby I'm Yours - Arctic Monkeys
5. Twisterella - Ride
6. Happy Hour - The Housemartins
7. Siberia - Soft Hearted Scientists
8. Ideal World - The Christians
9. Barney (And Me) - The Boo Radleys
10. You're In A Bad Way - Saint Etienne

2. on page 344 [subpage 4/6]
TOP 50 SINGLES OF 2007
7. The Rumble Strips - Alarm Clock
Despite the grumpy lyrics, it's the best song for getting out of bed to since The Boo Radleys' Wake Up Boo! How its wonderful brass failed to make it an equally big hit is a total mystery.

if I was Martin (or any of the Boos), I'd be so proud of these mentions Rolling Eyes

My parents have been accusing that ever since I first bought Giant Steps! Words can't describe how much I love that song though. And the video's quite brilliant too: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&VideoID=5933262

Whilst we're Boo-spotting, Rob Cieka got a mention in the Doncaster Rovers matchday programme this past week as Crewe Alexandra's most famous fan.

He always told me he supported Aston Villa (where he's originally from) but aside from going completely overboard on the '94 World Cup he never showed the slightest interest in football x

Interestingly, the same Doncaster programme this was mentioned in also goes on to say that he is regularly seen at Crewe's home games. Confused
