Yeah, I was just going to post about this as well.
Sad news indeed. Even though I'm not familiar with British radio channels, I know the legendary Peel Sessions. I found bravecaptain in the Peel Sessions archives (2000) but no Boo Radleys...?

R.I.P.

John Peel was a true great and there is no doubt that he affected the lives of many of us by introducing us to a wide variety of music and shaping us into the people we are today.

RIP one of the true Pop Kids

Just got an email from my brother telling me the sad news. Sparky is right, he will never be replaced - you could listen to his shows all week and never hear a song you'd heard before and for the past couple of years he's been the only thing worth listening to on Radio 1.

Truly a legend,
A bigger influence on good music than any band, record label or drug. It's unbelievable to think all the bands that owe it all to him, and above all he seemed like such a sound sound guy. The kind of fella you'd sit and shoot the shit with for a couple of hours in the pub, and he seemed to have a really big heart.
A real loss

I agree, definitely top of my list of people I'd like to have had a pint with. And judging by the amount of emails I saw passed around yesterday a lot of other people also thought he was the bees knees.

I see Michael Eavis is to name the "New Bands Stage" the "John Peel Stage" at G'bury. Fair Play.

Apart from his contribution to music, me & Mrs. Dubya always listened to Home Truths on R4 over Saturday breakfast.
He will be missed.

RIP John

for playing 45s at 33 and 33s at 45 and for the beautiful forward he wrote to the wsc first XI book ("[stood with Queen of the South fans] how could I ever doubt I was stood amongst the cream of mankind") and for a significant contribution to my record collection (along with mark radcliffe, the staff of the much missed imperial records shop, my mates and spaceman jon from rivalplymouth!) he'll always have a place in my heart. Sure that heavens gonna have the tunes that heaven should now!

he really was one of a kind, i'm sure a lot of young djs think they do a lot to nurture bands they like but John went way beyond that.

he should have lived longer.
