"Do They Know It's Christmas Soon And U2 Have A New Album Out?" I believe, is what St Boner wanted them to rename that song, but Fran Healy chirped, "Travis have a Singles compilation t' flog before then as well, ye know!" Dido, too, joined in, to opine, "The greatest gift they'll get this year is 'Life For Rent' ...my latest album!" while Justine Hawkwind from The Darkness said, "What about me, I'm desperate to appear on a festive-themed, Christmas No.1 single!" ..adding a *kerrazy* guitar solo on the end of his comment, while Dizzee Rascal rapped, "Oh just shut up de lot of u, dis iz gonna be better than tha '89 orijinal, wit or witout U2," to the disgust of Boner, who countered, "Well tonight thank Bob it's me, instead of HIM!" as he pointed at the Darkness frontman, before that sensitive soul from Coldplay, hidden at the back, broke out into a softly spoken, piano-led blast of "Feeeeed the eeeeeego... Let. them. know. it's. Chris. Mart.in. OH! Feeeeed the eeeeeego... Do. they. know. it's. Chris. Mart.in. at. all?"

they could have re-released the original... it would have done the same job.

Is the morality of an act judged by the intention of the person performing the act or by the outcome? And what line is Dizzee Rascal singing in it?

I wrote something on this board about the new Band Aid single being a bad thing but on reflection I don't reckon it is. After all its just a pop single, no-one will die as a result of it being released and the worst thing that can happen is that Bono's ego will get a bit bigger.

It is a good thing, charity and all that.

...but it is a terrible version. I actually laughed out loud when that guy did the little rap in the middle, and the guitar stuff at the end if just painful (and that's from a guitarist!)

Would be better if everyone who bought the thing gave the money straight to charity instead; that way more would get to where it is supposed to...

But I think mocking people's motives is a bit... well, uncharitable ... People didn't say the same things about the 'Help' album because it had 'cool' people on (like the Boos, natch) but it probably still helped shift a few records for 'em.

like it or not it'll sell more copies for having bono and chris martin on it than if they re-released the original, and more money will be raised than by leaving people to give money without offering them a carrot.

apart from it appearing that you're all lacking a sense of humour, if the replies are anything to go by... have a look around the net, for one, and see how many, many more people prefer the original to the new version

as for 'Help'... there wasn't a major hype about it... the CD didn't even feature the names of the acts on it. oh and, there was much more of an effort made as regards songs contributed. the two can't be compared

of course the reason for the (new) single is a good thing as long as it makes the money for the intended causes... but you can't help laugh at the egomaniacs taking part (and it's not just Bono who's guilty)
