I believe the only way to stop this is to punish the fans buy punishing their countries sport. Why should a country get something as prestigious as the Olympics when it can't even clamp down on it's own racist fans? Why restrict it to football just because it happened at a football game? Are you saying that it would ONLY happen at a football game?
When Liverpool fans rioted in Heysel in 1985 the result was a ban on all English (British?) teams being banned from Europe for 5 years. That may seem harsh but for me it worked. Football hooliganism in England may still be bad but it's nothing compared to what it was in the 80's. _________________ "fashioned by the blade of a world that doesn't care,

i don't agree that madrid should be banned from hosting the olympics. i heard that suggestion this morning and (maybe i'm too cynical) thought it was a cheap way of boosting london's bid.
would britain also be banned following racist abuse and violence at the england-turkey match in sunderland last year?
sweeping punishments, with thousands/millions punished for the crimes of a few don't seem fair to me. going back to the heysel example, how is it fair for norwich to get a 5 year ban from europe (ok they didn't qualify for most of that time, but anyway...) after no history of trouble, and liverpool a 6 year ban for direct involvement in the incident which led to 39 deaths and the ban (albeit there were many other contributory factors)?
i hadn't really considered th idea that the post-heysel ban was responsible for curbing trouble. i thought it was more to do with all-seater stadia pricing people out and making it easier to identify trouble-makers. |

| all this talk of lengthy bans and that stuff about the Olympics is over the top. but if it happens again, something serious should be done. I can't say I've ever heard of there being much of that sort of thing in Spain. I believe it's commonplace in Italy, for example, but we've not seen it in a match involving England recently, so the UK tabloids aren't going on about it there, or any of the other places where there's been racist abuse. Heskey, for Liverpool, and Thierry Henry - for just two examples - have both got a lot of abuse in European club games in the last few years, and it didn't get all that much coverage. As for Rooney... the authorities need to tackle hooligans on the pitch as well as off it. |

"Start spreading the news, I'm leaving the play... I don't want a part of it"
- Dwight Yorke (Dwight Yorke!)
More pathetic monkey chants, this time in yesterday's Blackburn v Birmingham game, aimed at Dwight Yorke, the father of Jordan's child (surely they could have mocked him over that instead?!)...
Someone said on the radio earlier that Blackburn officials are saying it wasn't very many who were doing it, but, and I quote: "just two guys."
Maybe they meant Blackburn's Turkish player, Tugay - ?! |

What relevance does his sexual orientation have to his footballing ability?

considering the late Justin Fashanu - a gay (black) man - once won Goal Of The Season, I'd say none
(I made the same comments elsewhere about Tugay and pointed out the pronunciation too, but I knew you were all more knowledgable than most on here, so didn't bother ) |

aston villa are simply briliant. Did anyone see solano's goal? Another contender for goal of the season from villa park. Where are you manure, liverpool and newcastle. We're fifth and the shite half of birmingham are going down. Say what you will about david o'leary but the man is amazing. There's only juan pablo angel and you fucking knows it. _________________ Martin O'Neill's Claret And Blue Army |

I've seen people suggest Steven Gerrard play up front. but no, I'd rather see the other 'captain there. arf
at least you've not said you want to go to Chelsea.... hmmm... there must be an Elvis Costello joke in here somewhere
then again, I have an old magazine with an interview, that says:
DEADLINE interrupted guitarist/songwriter MARTIN CARR's enjoyment of Chelsea's famous victory over FC Bruges to ask about love, misery, originality, voluntary exile, Stevie Wonder and, of course, what the fuck the Boos were playing at on Top Of The Pops.
is there something you're not telling us? |

er, that was me.
but you looked good as a slice of toast on the cover!
(I'll have to scan it and put it all on here...)
could do with a "Stevie Wonder" headline after the Monaco game, too......

Okay - now I understand the "8:15 not pretty mate", line... thought you were just being self-deprecating.
The tickets - obviously - are for the Olympiakos home tie on Tuesday December 8th, KO 19:45hrs.
The earlier we get there, the better. I'm sure I have a tab to pay off at the Albert [arf - I can just imagine trying to swing that one!]
Oh, and the live version of Weaponised has given me tinnitus. Still, it's an A, if I'm not mistaken, and quite pleasant to listen to. _________________ The Musical Mystery Tour,
