We should do one....
Send in an MP3 of you playing an everyday household object or vegetable and I'll mix them all together. It just has to sound better than that Mike Read travesty.
(A Tommy Boo teapopt solo is a must)
The sentiment and the cause is worthy, but surely giving a tenner or whatever is better than that load of self aggrandising old toffee!
I'd pay not to hear it! _________________ We would like to announce that due to cutbacks the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off..... |

it doesn't matter how bad the song is, or more to the point, how bad the recording of that song is, coz it's for a good cause

i think that is bollocks. i'm sorry but these people are not doing this for a good cause. its self aggrandisement. using this disaster as an opportunity to get there names back in lights. where are the charity records for all the heartache and suffering around the world that don't get in the news? they are not GIVING anything. i did that charity record in the nineties, do you really think that we were thinking about starving whales in the sudan when we agreed to do it and that we were putting ourselves out by getting drunk and recording a tune? we knew we we were doing some good but it was also just part of our job ie it was promotion. this wasn't going thru our minds either but c'mon, it is the fucking music industry that benefits. what have they given? a million? how much will they make from all the free publicity? who will benefit most from the charity records? who benefitted most from live aid? was it some kid with flies all over his face and a distended belly cowering next to his dead mother? or was it queen and u2?
you do what you can, i won't be fooled into doing more.

that's just what I've been saying (er, except not so well put, or with any of the experience)
I was just mocking the pro-Bono stance on here before with that post above
people shouldn't need celebrities to tell them to do something, or make them do something, anyway |

I did realise I was opening myself up for criticism by posting that.

People
should
but they don't do they? I haven't got a problem with charity records - some people involved with some of them (and okay, particulaly this one!) might be doing it for the wrong reasons, but if it ends up doing sone good then hey...
(... & Help was a ace record anyway!)

I totally agree here that these people are gaining out of the tsunami disaster. Having been on honeymoon in September in the Maldives, I have to say that the whole thing scared the shit out of me, thinking it could have been my husband and I in all that madness. It really annoyed me that that X factor tosser suddenly said, all profits to go to the appeal. Personall, I feel the whole thing grabbed the opportunity to grab the number one, which I feel would have illuded him from doing it otherwise. It really is pathetic. And the other thing that annoyed me is people saying 'oh, is our hotel alright for our holiday?'. I think these people are shallow doing this. If I had been booked to go since it happened I would have gone and helped alll those people, and simply do what you can, or just cancelled the thing. I know people all look forward to holidays, but for fucks sake, look at what those people have got now. A holiday seems irrelevant. It's horrible to think that the staff at our resort have probably been affected by the whole thing, especially as a lot were Sri Lankan, and sent their measly $200 per month home to their families, who may be gone now.
The whole thing is another horrific part of life, in addition to all the crappy civil wars, and nasty regimes there are in the world. And we all don't need Ozzy fucking Osborne murdering a song that was already shit to make us realise we need to put our hands in our pockets. Why can't all these celebrities simply donate a few hundred thousand, if not million instead. I might actually think more of them then.
Moaning over. |

thats too simplistic, set. you can justify just about everything with that question. isn't that how they justify the war in iraq? the wall in israel?

DAMNED.
Although...in this case, will anyone get hurt?
You can say that the war in Iraq does kill some people, so people do get hurt where as a celeb upping their fame doesn't really hurt anybody.
Maybe if you try hard enough you can say becoming a fan of say Ozzy is getting hurt, but it isn't really?
What do you think about that?

I really think most celebrities who get ropped into it do it for the wrong reasons.
I think Bob started Band Aid for the right reasons though. But then I love Geldof n the Rats so my view in him is bias.
Musically Live Aid was shite though. Fucked up British music for a whole long time and I'll never be persuaded that the likes of queen n the big record labels supported it for charity, i'm certain they used it to sell records n nothing else. If bands like queen had had that much of a political or charitable heart they'd never have played sun city would they? |

I don't think anyone was expecting the bands to make a sacrifice at Live Aid, or in regards to any of the other "charity" events / records before or since. Queen were asked to entertain a billion people in the hope that the audience watching would part with a bit of money along the way, and they fulfilled that role. There wouldn't be any point in having artists performing at charity events that weren't interested in self-aggrandisement.
My problem with all of these charity events / records is that they're all shit. Ten seconds of stumbling across Lulu's set last night was enough to remind me of that. But, if her performance meant that a few grannies and grandads got their chequebooks out, who gives a fuck?
You're right about Live Aid crippling the music industry, though. The last thing rock n roll needs is a conscience. _________________ The Musical Mystery Tour,
