There's a lot to thank The Coral for - almost single-handedly they saved Liverpool's music scene from being totally swamped by stocky guys ploddingly dreaming of getting to fetch supper for Noel Gallagher one day, and reconnected the city with its lost tradition of befuddled experimentation. Reminding the world of the great try-it-and-see spirit of BOO RADLEYS and great lost psyche-lords Mr Ray's Wig World was a neat trick, but the problem with novelty is that it rubs off faster than a three quid henna tattoo at a rainy music festival.

and then...

After years of self-consciously trying to sound like nobody else, 'The Invisible Invasion' finally sees the band being a bit more brazen about their influences, from the opening Byrds-in-an-Indian-restaurant of 'She Sings In The Morning' through lead single 'In The Morning' hinting around the mellow end of the BOO RADLEYS catalogue.

I'm guessing that Mr Rays Wig World were a bit psychedelic, eh?

For some reason i have been thinking a lot about that cartoon Mr Benn. I think that was one of my faves when i was a kid.

TBH it was the fact that nme gave everything's alright forever a 9 that got me into the boos in the first place.

Those were the days when you could trust an nme review...

I was sure that Wake Up! and C'mon Kids got 9 as well. But maybe my memory is going, I'm getting old.

The Wigs were a risible bunch of sherry drinking alky/acid fiends. They split up cos they ran out of instruments to smash up.

...and that Koffee nut wine from the Prescott Rd offy....I'm sure that syrup was meant to be diluted with water. No wonder my teeth started melting! I wonder if the lad from the NME ever heard the Wigs, we only sold about 43 records. We did a mean version of Evil 'Oodoo though.[/quote]

Mojo also compare the two of them - specifically the new Coral single and Wake Up BOO!... - I think because both sound happy, but have sadder undertones...
