I don't think Man U will go tits up but he's financed the deal the way Leeds did under Risdale, buying the club using cash secured against future income. Thats OK if you're future income is as you expect it to be but if it isn't your fucked. If you slip up one season, don't get in the champions league then you need to sell players to service your debts. Then you've got a worse team and don't qualify the next year so you have to sell some more etc. etc. etc. Plus Glazer said he's going to invest 20 million in transfers for each of the next 4 seasons. That sounds like loads but it isn't really for a club of Man U's size.
In the last 5 years the only decent signings I can think of have been Rooney, Ferdinand and Ronaldo, they cost 65 million+ in total. Loads of cash has been wasted on Forlan, Kleberson, Djemba Djemba etc. and in the next few years Man U are going to have to replace their entire midfield cos they're all getting on a bit. So just to stand still they're going to have to spend loads and thats before they look to bridge the gap with Arsenal, never mind the European big guns like Chelsea, AC Milan and...Liverpool.
Plus do you reckon Glazer knows anything about football really? I'm sure he's done loads of research (as I always do when I'm buying things which cost over a billion dollars) but the sport he knows is baseball where they don't have transfer fees and the club which finishes bottom of the league gets the best draft picks to keep things even in the league.
Bizarely I don't want Man U to fall apart, if only cos they're one of the only teams who I can challenging Chelsea in the next few years/decades and that makes for a more interesting season. Apart from the relegation and the all important battle for 4th position the league has been really dull this year. Football has already got too predictable, pundits go wild when West Brom draw with Man U because apparently it shows how narrow the margins are in the top flight, but in the 80's you had 6 or 7 clubs who at the start of the season were genuine contenders for the league. Of course Liverpool always won it though and thats the situation we need to get back to.
However if anyone reading this board tells anyone in the outside world that I've got sympathy for Man U or their fans then I will deny it to my dying breath. This is a bravecaptain board secret. |

Setareh should be happy today
as a Liverpool fan tho, I'm not sure if it's a good thing (Liverpool know they've beaten Juve, who are now 5 points clear of AC with 2 games to go) or a bad thing (Milan will be looking to the CL final to save their season) |

Yes I am. Babies were good today. Although, I am not celebrating yet, that'd be jinxing what I'm hoping will come my way soon.

you sound like a born worrier to me
I'm one, anyway... already had two bad dreams recently about the CL final
speaking of babies, maybe the knowledge that the inexperienced Reds are going into this match, which they've never known anything like, is akin to how a parent feels sending their child out for their first day of school in the *big, bad* world

It could be. Or I've learned from previous experiences of being sure of something and then crying later. I don't really believe in jinxes and stuff like that, but I am cautious just in case these days.

Time to rejoice...28 28 28 28 28 28 28!!!!!
Juve are the champions. Now for the Liverpool hopeful:
"The year in which Pope John Paul I died (1978) :
JUVENTUS won Serie A,
INTER won the Coppa Italia ....
and LIVERPOOL won the Champions Cup....
Can history repeat itself ?????????"
John Paul II died this year, Juventus have won the serie A, Inter are in the coppa Italia final...
Also:
"Some other sports events which happened in 1978 :
Wales win the Rugby Grand Slam (happened this year too)
Liverpool lost the League Cup Final against the eventual Champions
(happened this year too)."
(the source btw is from the Juventus mailing list)

I told you there was no need to worry
and heh, two nice additions (Juve/Inter) to the 1978 thing... although I have to admit I didn't know anything about Inter Milan's domestic exploits this year...
I take it the Coppa Italia final isn't before Wednesday, so them losing can't spoil it ahead of time... but if Liverpool win, will Inter fans be quoting the sequence and mentioning Liverpool?

oh, and... how pathetic are Milan now in talking about wanting to sign Steven Gerrard?
they sound worried
plus, the ref will be Spanish... wonder if he'll side with the Italians, or the English(-Spanish) team, or just go out of his way to prove he's not biased in favour of the latter (I'm going for the 3rd option) |
