Felt quite sorry for Cisse last night, he looked genuinely gutted when the interviewer asked him if he'd be leaving Liverpool. I don't want him to go, I don't think he's been given enough time to show what he can do.

I saw the game up until the 60[something]th minute, before having to leave it. Was it any better a spectacle from then, or should I not bother watching it (I recorded it for watching later) anytime soon?

I don't want Djibril to go either, but that wouldn't be entirely based on footballing reasons (you'd miss the haircuts, the dancing around the trophies, and the small matter of the apparent desire to be a Liverpool player, which is always a good thing. He can run, too.)

there's only two milan baros's or something like that. I think he might be quite good for us. An interesting thing on the villa webpage. It says on the squad list that Baros is "on loan from Liverpool". Have they fucked it up or is there something in this i wonder? We had better have got him permanently or doug ellis is a right wanker.

Don't bother watching the game, just see the goals and then fast forward to Cisses dancing during the trophy presentation. Am getting increasingly worried about Morrientes, its not just that he's not scoring, he doesn't seem to be doing the simple things like controlling a ball and making simple passes. Hope he can sort himself out.

I'm sure we've sold Baros rather than loaning him out, we need the cash. Good finish by him yesterday for that goal.

getting less and less excited the closer the (surely inevitable) signing of michael owen gets. getting him for about the same price as baros, so that it was almost a straight swap, would have been great, and given us really good options up front. if cisse is sold to pay for owen, we're not much better off and would be stretched if anyone got injured (surely inevitable given owen's record). if the price for owen is anywhere near the £17m or whatever newcastle agreed with real lfc really are mugs. please take our best striker for a year. oh go on, we'll pay you £9m.

owen's a really good player, and i'm sure he'll do well if he comes back, but he let us down last summer and if we're going to bale him out now it needs to be on favourable terms for us not him. when we needed him he walked away, now he needs us so hopefully the fee and wages will reflect that.

if cisse gets sold, obviously against his wishes, it will be really sad. i was sorry to see smicer and biscan go (no, honestly) after what they did to help us win the european cup, but at least they had the chance to show what they could do, and were found wanting too often. cisse has had very little chance. he had a bit of a slow start last season, but it takes most players time to settle into a new club/league. and he's scored goals at the end of last season and the start of this.

i think morientes has become a bit of a scapegoat. at the cska sofia game there was a guy behind me slagging off his every touch. he had a bad game, but still did some good things. against cska moscow, he did ok a few times to set up things for other people. the main problem is that he doesn't look like scoring, but that's not solely his fault. we're not creating many chances, and with a one up front system, most of them seem to be falling to the supporting player (gerrard or garcia). you can hardly say there's been a regular supply of decent crosses. cisse on the right wing has been the best source of crosses this season, so it will be interesting to see who rafa ends up with in that position this week.

baros scored a decent goal yesterday, but also missed a couple of good chances. he's never been a prolific scorer. was 9 league goals last season his career best? i hope he does well, but i don't think he's ever going to be a great player. if we could have sold him at an inflated post-euro04 price last summer and kept owen, that might have been better (but then maybe we wouldn't be european champions now Very Happy ).

I think Morrientes would be better playing with someone along side him rather than upfront on his own. Plus, as you said, we've not been putting many crosses, hopefully we'll get a proper right winger in the next couple of days.

i think the cisse situation reflects badly on the club, in one interview you've got Rafa saying we don't need any more strikers while Parry is saying we might get Owen. If Rafa thinks Cisse isn't his kind of player then we should have got rid of him before now, i doubt he's learned anything he didn't know about him from the European games and 2 league games we've played so far. But now it seems as though we're hanging on to him in case the Owen deal doesn't come off but if it does we'll ship him out straight away. Actually if it makes Cisse angry and so he play's like he did on Friday every game then maybe its a tactical masterstroke by the manager.

I was talking to someone who used to be a physio at a Premier League club over the weekend and she said that a lot of the players who got injured weren't overly concerned about getting fit again quickly and it was a really effort to get them to do the neccessary exercises. Cisse must have put in loads of work to get back from that injury so quickly when he could have put it off till next season and still earned the same amount of cash. Dedicated, quick, great dancer, top goalscorer in the french league 3 years in a row - we definitely need to keep him.

the super cup final was a bit shit. the romantic comedy on the other channel probably would have been more exciting.
i almost wanted moscow to win, at least they would have deserved it.
i called sami hyypiä a dirty bastard for the first time in my life after that tackle. alonso should have got a yellow card at least too. they really need someone who knows how to score goals though. morientes has been a bit of a disappointment so far.
oh well, let's hope liverpool do well in the premier league this season.
cisse shouldn't go. i think he might become pretty good and i would miss his crazy haircuts.

I don't know... Moscow and Liverpool were both quite shit. I always have sympathy for small clubs so I thought it would be pretty cool if CSKA had won it (even though I like Liverpool as well)... until I realised that they're not actually that small now when they've got Abrahimovich's money.

bleh.

If the Champions League final 2005 was the best cup final ever, then this was boring . Cisse's 1-1 goal should have been disallowed, that's why I said that Liverpool didn't really deserve to win it.
Well, it was just the super cup final. Why do I care?

Well done Liverpool.

Smile

Always support Liverpool Tommy, always.

There's an hour and a half to go till the transfer window shuts and we're still no closer to getting a new right winger or a centre half which worries me a little bit.

In other football news my 7-a-side got beat on penalties in the final of the tournament we played in tonight and my legs hurt now.

just done a quick search to find his name. simao. but the deal's off now. Rolling Eyes

post-istanbul optimism is fast eroding.

yup, that's simao sabrosa. but benfica wanted £13.6m (too much, apparently) so the deal is off. oh well, he probably wasn't worth that anyway.

it's a shame that owen didn't come back to liverpool, he would have been the player that they're looking for right now... can't believe newcastle paid £17m for him though. Shocked

they would have got at least 30 neil shipperleys for that money!
