Booze and Fleas

so i decided today that i would try to ferment my own booze. i've got several 2 liter soda bottles choc full of sugar water yeast lemon and ginger. only cost me $5. i'm following a recipe of sorts, but still terrified of going blind upon consumption. a friend told me to just make sure there's no methane involved. any of you guys got any experience with this?

and i crashed on a friend's couch last night only to wake up with fleas.

not methane, son, but methanol, I'd figure. Apparently the only way to tell you got methanol rather than ethanol (the good stuff) is that the bad stuff smells like meths. Symptoms of methanol poisoning include: Severe abdominal pain, Drowsiness, Dizziness, Blurred vision leading to blindness
(The symptoms of methanol poisoning can be delayed for several hours) - if you can tell the difference between those symptons and the symptons of being pished, you're made of sterner stuff than me.

i guess i would say it's not worth it, but it blatantly is (besides, which of us hasn't played russian roulette by putting one unknown chemical or another in our system?). I grew up on a cornish farm and with nothing better to do in the cold, dank winters, home brew became something of a teenage speciality. the best: carve out a marrow and fill with yeast and sugar for an interesting and mind-blowing variant of vodka. the worst? dandelion wine. bleugh!

Any kind of fruit juice, room temperature and some yeast. Sometimes you don't even need yeast.

methanol will make you go blind, but so does wanking, so I'm gonna go blind anyway.
