Hip Clown Rag has NOT been forgotten about. Not even slightly fella!
I want in, I still want in. I always wanted to be in!
I'll let you all know about my idea in a month or so. I have to get it all fully figured out and see if I can fund getting it off it's feet. The likelyhood is that I wont be able to afford it, as I just applied to go back to Uni and if the boss dont pay for it then I'm out of pocket even more
The idea at it's very base level is that fans pay a quid a month and for that they get to listen to streamed demos that unsigned artists send in, and get to vote on who gets recorded, beacuse they are literally shareholders in the company with a chance of making profit if the label does.
It's obviously a lot more complicated than that, and I'm working on the smaller details right now

yes sir, if we can get together a solid plan I'll pitch in $50-100 USD/month (keeping in mind that the dollar is plumetting). all offers subject to change, such as if my girlfriend makes me move in with her..... _________________ "Even I know the solution: love, music, wine and revolution..." I'm serious. I'm sick of this bullshit. the latest Paul Westerberg is 86* better than the last coldplay/whatever. I mean, we're at the point where $10 a month or so for access to unpublicised unsigned groups would be a godsend. how 'bout list em fer $20/month, access for $10/month or so? possible signings resulting from the service would be subject to an appropriate fee, like you'd find at a temporary employment agency. If you need help with the coding I got a friend who's the shit, and I can't volunteer him per se, but you know.... _________________ "Even I know the solution: love, music, wine and revolution..." I'm afraid my plan aint gonna work out.
Only way it would is if ppl paid £5 a month at least and we only made an album once every 2 months
ah well, I'll keep saving and thinking, thinking and saving...

Can anybody else think of a plan?
I'm super motivated on this and really don't wanna let it go _________________ When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bike. Then I realised that The Lord doesn't work that way, so I stole one and asked him to forgive me. |

Its tricky isn't it, I don't know anything about how much it costs to put a record but we must be talking thousands of pounds for studio time and getting the CD's made etc. And realistically I don't think you'd be able to raise that sort of cash through subscriptions to a website.
What about this for an idea? Paul W is putting together the Hip Clown Rag site. As part of that you could ask bands to send in songs on MP3. Someone could then listen to all the tracks and then every month they could decide which was the best track and stick it on the site to be downloaded along with an article about the band/person/collective/cartoon character who made it.
Obviously you could just stick all the tracks on the site and let people download them and decide for themselves but I think if there is just one track 1) people will take more notice of it and 2) they're more likely to take the time to download it.
I realise this isn't going to revolutionise the record industry but its something that’s easily do-able and cheap. |

nope. What the hell kind of overhead are you guys thinking of? forget recording albums. that's up to whoever actually cares about that sort of thing. Ex. - you list for a fee. however you make that recording is up to you. It's not your problem if I want to list my band, right? subscribers access everything submitted for a set fee. I'm sure you guys have temporary employment agencies over there? Well, they send you out to a job, and your pay is through them. If that employer wants to hire you, they have to buy you from the agency. in terms of this sort of thing it'd have to be a purchase of any material leading to said employment contract. Negligible sums would keep the site running.
think Factory. net profit of zero. _________________ "Even I know the solution: love, music, wine and revolution..." (magnetic fields)
