OK who reads these things? I hear the highlight is that she tore Gareth Gate's foreskin and he has a wart on his balls.

Secondly why is stuff like that allowed to be printed; it seems cruel and libelous and probably written with the same flair with which she stumbles out of limos

Thirdly, has anyone ever read a celeb tell-all that actually had any merits apart from satisfying our need forcruddy gossip?

I read stuff like that in newspapers. I'm not proud of it but I do. OK, maybe I am a little bit proud of it. And although its may appear cruel towards Gareth I don't think anyone actually suffers as a result of it. I'm sure he didn't sleep with Jordan thinking she was some shy and retiring young girl, he must have released that it would end up in a newspaper/book eventually. And if he's offended by it and wants to take legal action then he can but that would just mean more publicity for the book and the damages in court he'd receive would be minimal anyway. Plus Gareth was dropped by his record label last week and could do with the media attention - there's no such thing as bad publicity. Except maybe when people are saying you've got warts on your balls.

Can't think of any celebrity books which has added to the sum of human knowledge though. Gazza's autobiography is out in a couple of months though and maybe that will push back the literary boundaries.

Yeah I can't he;p reading all that shit in the papers either, but it sometimes upsets me if Dave Beckhams new tatoo is on page one and genocide and famine in Sudan is on page twelve

I couldn't agree more about things like that (Beckham's tattoo, etc.). I mean, since when has "Corrie showdown over love triangle" been anywhere near as important a news story as "Car bomb hits Baghdad hotel"?! (Courtesy of MSN News today)

I think that if you want to read about problems in Africa and non-showbiz related stories then the broadsheets usually cover that sort of thing. And although its easy (and fun) to criticise the British press but there are a lot of different newspapers to choose from, even if a lot of are ultimately run by the same owners .

Most people don't want want to read about war and death in the morning on the bus on the way to work. They want a few pictures of celebs and some sports news. The Mirror tried to go serious after 9/11, promising to not put showbiz stories on the front page and to concentrate on more important issues than Beckhams new tattoos. They lost 25% of their readership in the next year and they've now abandoned that plan.

my mate works at the publishing company that put that jordan book out and said she was "hilariously retarded" in person. apparently during some meeting she was involved in she entertained herself by aiming her tits at every man in the room.

for a good trashy autobiography... go see david lee roth's "crazy from the heat". now that's entertaining.

Tabloids are dross and i couldnt give a fuck about beckhams tatoo or who he has been porking this week. The Sun accused Liverpool fans of stealing from and urinating on the dead at hillsborough and never apologised. When Dennis Potter (finest TV writer this country has ever produced) died there obituary read "DIRTY DENNIS THE TV SHOCKER IS DEAD) I reallly cannot understand why people buy the tawdry rag.
