There's a war going on in Iraq, peoples civil liberties are being cut back as part of the "war against terror" and there's a right wing President in the White House - why have there been no albums about what's going on? Is it because bands aren't interested in/don't understand the current situation, because The Kids don't like political records or because record companies wouldn't release them? I suppose its hard to sum up the complexities and difficulties of the issues in a 3 verse song without sounding simplistic or resorting to cliched slogans

And have their ever been any genuinely popular political albums? I can think of "What's Going On?" and "There's A Riot Going On" plus the early Public Enemy albums. Even hip hop seems to have become a bit inward looking these days.

apparently the beastie boys are having a go, as does the captain, and radiohead. But it is true that most popular music lacks the spirit of rebellion that it once did, unless you consider Chris Martin scribblin' some shit on his hand as a protest

nearly every song has some kind of reference to war or foreign policies. Bleed forever i thought was the most obvious of this

Apparently Madonna's new tour is political...but for her it's about shocking the hell out of people, in any way she can, right now it happens to be through politics.

When it was 'dangerous' to oppose the war she didn't release her controversial video, now that tons of celebrities have spoken against the war she does it too...

Love and Peace

She's a corporate shill and a publicity whore. No talent either. Fuck me I can sing better than her and I'm bloody awful.
