so, do you like bravecaptain's new electronica-laptop-whateveryouwannacallit-style more than the older style on fingertip saint 1 & 2 for example? ok, i have no idea what the new style actually is, but i'm talking about the new ep and 'i am a lion' ep here.
personally, i like pretty much everything the captain has recorded so far, and it's impossible to compare two different styles of good music in my opinion, but here are some random thoughts:

old songs (pre-AFM)*
-lyrics are much more 'personal' and easier to understand.
-trumpets. i like trumpets.
-not so many fancy voice effects > easier to sing along to!
-lots of la la la la, da da daa da da
-more singing.
-lots of cool and exciting instruments.
-some songs are a bit predictable

new songs (post-AFM)
-the songs are much more exciting and not predictable at all... you never know what's coming next!
-cool sounds and effects (i love the fucked up effects in some songs that sound chaotic at first but then they start to make some sense after a while)
-sometimes too many voice effects (vocoders?)
-voice effects. they can be good too. bad bone bad bone bad bone bad bone...
-even more cool and exciting instruments.
-all watched over by machines of loving grace.
-better use of la la la , especially on 'toytown'
-different kind of lyrics - a bit weird and complicated (to me at least) but very cool.
-this thread is just pointless and no one cares. (am i right?)

* AFM = Advertisments For Myself = a very good combination of the old and new styles!

[/list]

I can definietly agree that AFM sounds like a "crossover" album. God I hate that term! Sounds like Bon Jovi saying "Keep The Faith" Was a crossover record Twisted Evil

Tommy I tried a thread like this last week and it bombed Wink

i liked fingertip saint sessions 1 - thought that was quite experimental then, 'big red control machine' .etc.. Nice and low-key.

i liked fingertip saint sessions 2 more - lovely and summery, and the genius of gorwel owen, with all his jupiter 8's, and moogs .etc. (Where was in on the last Gorky's album!!!! *sigh* )

i love corporation man , better living through......... .

i liked afm - some of the instrumentals are a tad annoying, but its still all a work of genius

i love 'i am a lion' E.P' . All class.

i quite like 'all watched over.....' especially the title track, but the rest i'm not so sure about. i'm hopng the new albums more like 'i am a lion'.

i dunno what i prefer, though. I'd like him to do summit more low-key. maybe some electronic-folk, or summit.

mmmmmmmmmmm
